We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to join a mission-driven nonprofit organization in Los Angeles, California. This contract position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and enhance financial operations while ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. The role requires a strong background in financial leadership and a deep understanding of nonprofit financial practices.
Responsibilities :
- Supervise daily accounting activities, leading a team that includes roles such as Assistant Controller, Staff Accountant, A / P Clerk, and Cash Clerk.
- Oversee the general ledger, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end closing processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare and present detailed financial reports on a quarterly basis to the Audit & Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
- Manage financial reporting in alignment with nonprofit standards and organizational best practices.
- Analyze financial data to support strategic planning and align budgeting with organizational goals.
- Handle revenue and gift processing, ensuring compliance with donor and government funding guidelines.
- Collaborate with leadership to prepare for single audit requirements as the organization expands its government funding sources.
- Develop and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for financial processes to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
- Support audit readiness by maintaining strong internal controls and adhering to financial policies.
- Lead the evaluation and potential implementation of a new financial system, ensuring effective integration with existing processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
- At least 7–10 years of experience in accounting leadership, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
- In-depth knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, audit preparation, and single audit requirements.
- Proficiency in handling reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
- Experience with nonprofit financial systems, with an added advantage for those familiar with system implementation.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Familiarity with month-end close procedures and financial statement audits.
- Ability to work onsite daily, with potential for a hybrid arrangement after initial integration phases.
