The Systems Engineer oversees and coordinates the work of technical teams on systems projects, ensuring the successful design, implementation, operation, and technical management of those projects. Taking a holistic approach to systems engineering, the Systems Engineer ensures that all aspects of a system project are considered and addressed. The Systems Engineer works closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and then develops and documents technical requirements that meet those needs. The Systems Engineer leads the design team in developing a system architecture that meets all of the requirements. After the system is designed, the Systems Engineer oversees the implementation of the system, working with the implementation team to ensure that it meets all of the requirements. Once the system is deployed, the Systems Engineer manages the technical aspects of the system, including monitoring performance, troubleshooting problems, and making improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all technical aspects of product or system design including directing multiple lab resources for large scale product or system deployments
- Manage sub-contractor resources supporting all system engineering areas (definition, requirements analysis, synthesis, systems analysis and implementation)
- Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architectures for systems of high complexity to include defining and refining internal and external interfaces
- Develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes
- Validate security control configurations on systems and ensure all systems are configured with proper controls, such as STIGS, CMMC, and other similar requirements
- Collaborate with sponsors and other key stakeholders to derive tasks from detailed requirements, and provide tasking to other team members based off of the derived tasks
Additional Responsibilities
- Design and implement systems engineering solutions for a variety of hardware and software-based systems
- Provide systems design expertise and collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines and domains
- Lead multi-disciplinary scrum/agile technical teams, ensuring research product development closely tracks with system requirements and implement those teams’ products
- Manage task and project administrative activities for diverse teams, including overseeing budgets and resources
- Develop requirements, system architectures, test plans, procedures, scripts, data, reports, and other related formal test artifacts
- Support all levels of test from Qualification to Developmental & Operational Testing by developing test plans, procedures, and reports
- Interface directly with sponsors to understand needs and address technical and programmatic concerns
- Lead requirements analysis activities and related coordination with external stakeholders and sponsors
- Support field/flight testing (electronic combat ranges) and testing in specialized lab facilities (anechoic & RF)
- Technical leadership with capture/pursuit experience, including contribution or authoring of white papers, proposal of technical volumes, and performing internal research and development, or related experience
- Experience presenting technical data to stakeholders and sponsor community, in design reviews and technical interchange meetings
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Experience with systems engineering processes and methodologies applicable to complex systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Secret Clearance
- Experience writing test procedures and plans for complex and multi-faceted DOD systems, platforms, and environments
- Experience performing in a Systems Engineering role on Department of Defense program
- Understanding of radar and/or electronic warfare systems
- Experience with test and evaluation
- Involvement in recognized professional groups (e.g. International Test and Evaluation Association, Society of Flight Test Engineers, Association of Old Crows, National Defense Industrial Association)
- Experience with Python, C/C++, or other languagesExperience or certification with Ansible, Scrum certified, CI/CD Pipelines, DevSecOps, Hardware in the loop testing, SolidWorks, Cameo Systems Modeler
