Assistant Attorney General / Post Conviction Relief

Overview

The Department of Justice, Office of Attorney General Liz Murrill, is seeking applications for an experienced Assistant Attorney General to represent the State of Louisiana in post-conviction capital proceedings. This position involves handling complex, high-stakes litigation in both state and federal court. The successful candidate will be an exceptional litigator who thrives in a high-volume, deadline driven work environment with voluminous records and who possesses the ability to identify key issues, present compelling arguments at every stage of post-conviction review, and work within a collaborative team setting.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and admission to the Louisiana Bar (or eligibility for admission).
• At least 3-5 years of litigation experience, with substantial courtroom practice.
• Capital or post-conviction experience required.
• Exceptional oral advocacy and legal writing skills.
• Ability to manage complex cases and large volumes of records efficiently.
• Strong interpersonal skills for working with prosecutors, law enforcement, and court personnel.
• Requires regular statewide travel for hearings, oral arguments, and case coordination.
• Prior clerkship preferred (state or federal).
