The assessment interview includes an in-depth face-to-face interview with children and youth.

On-Call Officers shall respond to law enforcement by phone within ten (10) minutes of notification and physically within thirty (30) minutes.
  • Determine ability of child / youth's participation in interview process by considering age, impairment due to the usage of drugs and / or alcohol, cognitive challenges, and current emotional state due to traumatic events.
  • If a youth is exhibiting signs of active trauma and the JIAS worker's attempts are not adequate to provide support and relief, the JIAS worker should follow local policy and procedure for obtaining additional mental health guidance and support.
