Description
ESC has an exciting opportunity for an Inventory Accountant to join our premier client's growing pharmacy team. This is a full-time position, starting as a 6-month contract . This position plays a key role in shaping the financial integrity and scalability of a rapidly evolving healthcare business. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to own the full inventory accounting cycle in a highly complex environment with non-integrated systems, third-party service providers, and emerging internal processes. You'll collaborate across Inventory Operations, Financial Operations, and Finance teams to ensure complete, accurate, and timely financial reporting - all while improving close processes and driving system integration.
We're looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Inventory Accountant who thrives in ambiguity, demonstrates sound judgment, and can communicate financial concepts clearly to both accounting and non-accounting partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and lead monthly close processes including journal entries, account reconciliations, stakeholder data reviews, and financial statement analysis
- Oversee one accounting team member, providing mentorship and review
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of data across multiple internal and third-party systems (e.g., Medicaid, GoodRx, Blue Cross, UHC)
- Manage all pharmacy inventory accounting events including receipts, returns, dispensing, COGS, reserves, and supplier rebates
- Perform analytical reviews to validate the reasonability of financial results - identifying and investigating anomalies through internal controls and data analysis
- Act as an embedded controllership function within the pharmacy business, operating in close partnership with operational and financial stakeholders
- Translate accounting processes and system requirements for non-accountants; educate partners on data sources, financial controls, and reconciliations
- Support the onboarding of new financial systems and tools; lead simplification initiatives to accelerate the month-end close
- Contribute to ad hoc journal entries for opex, capex, and leasing (limited scope)
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Accounting5-7 years of progressive accounting experienceStrong understanding of journal entries, month-end close, and balance sheet reconciliationsProven ability to work with non-standard, high-volume data and systems in a fast-paced environmentExcellent communication skills, with the ability to educate and influence cross-functional partnersAnalytical mindset with the ability to apply logic and math to evaluate financial accuracy and data qualityOrganized and reliable; able to manage multiple deliverables and meet tight deadlinesPreferred Qualifications
CPA or equivalent certificationExperience in healthcare, pharmacy, or high-growth / start-up environmentsERP system experience (Oracle, PeopleSoft, or similar)Aptitude for working with technology-driven accounting environmentsStrong interpersonal skills and a collaborative working styleSound judgment in ambiguous situations and a proactive approach to problem-solving
