The Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) is looking for an energetic, organized, creative, results-oriented professional to fill the position of SSCCC

  • Engagement and Development Coordinator. The
  • Engagement and Development Coordinator is responsible for base building (outreach, recruitment, and engagement), leadership development, campaign strategy, and alliance-building.
  • This position's emphasis is outreach, relationship building, and deep listening and relationship building that result in member and core leader recruitment;
  • facilitating the collective capacity of new / existing students to be part of organization leadership; implementing organizing and recruiting strategies and tactics;

and cultivating oneself as an organizational leader.

The Engagement and Development Coordinator recruits and energizes students to become active members of the SSCCC Regions and college local associated student body organizations with the goal of increasing the SSCCC reach and facilitating opportunities for building student leadership.

Some of the duties of the Community Organizer include but are not limited to the following activities :

  • Develop and carry-out-one-on-one student outreach and recruitment strategies in an effort to build membership that reflect the community of individuals who are most affected by the educational policies that SSCCC is working to change.
  • Support the development and use of communication material and strategies effective for reaching student populations.
  • Coordinate and conduct college-to-college, phone, and social media outreach to reach new students and maintain relationships with existing students participating in the SSCCC work.
  • Facilitate relationships between members and regions and foster ownership and responsibility for SSCCC work.
  • Identify and recruit emerging Region leaders among membership.
  • Develop and work with SSCCC Board members to conduct workshops, meetings, training, and strategy sessions that engage students as critical thinkers, change agents, and unified members working towards common goals.
  • Support the ongoing development of SSCCC leaders through coaching, reflection, and capacity building.
  • Support the development and implementation of issue-oriented campaigns that further SSCCC long-term goals and objectives.
  • Develop a database of student contacts for presentations, external committees, panels, region board leadership, and other student engagement opportunities.
  • Solicit scholarships and intern opportunities for student volunteers.
  • Maintain updated statistics about member involvement in SSCCC.
  • Represent SSCCC as needed at collaborative, coalition, and community meetings.
  • Supervise student interns.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field to communications, marketing, business administration, or a related area. A master's degree in a relevant field preferred
  • Two years of previous experience working as a community / adult lead organizer with tangible results (i.e., number of members / leaders, victories, visibility)

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage diverse projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work as a team player and foster collaboration in an environment with racial, ethnic, immigrant status, and economic diversity.
  • Proficient in training and facilitating.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and self-motivation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (one-on-one and in group contexts), cultural competencies, strong listening skills, patience, and humor.
  • Comfort with social media and digital communication is preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet organization requirements and community needs, including evenings and weekends.
