Job descriptionBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field and 2+ years of technical experience (maintenance, engineering, operations, or maintenance planning); OR Associate degree and 3+ years of technical experience in a similar area; OR High school diploma / GED plus technical training (apprenticeship or equivalent) and 4+ years of experience in mechanical maintenance or planning. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Strong understanding of mechanical systems and equipment used in industrial or energy plant environments. Proven ability to plan and develop detailed maintenance work orders. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in computer systems, CMMS platforms, and MS Office tools. Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with hands-on mechanical troubleshooting understanding. Capable of qualifying as a Planner I within plant requirements. Experience in mechanical maintenance planning within a regulated or nuclear environment. Familiarity with ASME, API, and industry mechanical standards. Working knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance principles and predictive maintenance practices.
Mechanical Work Planner

Overview
This position develops, revises, and maintains mechanical work orders to support safe, efficient, and compliant plant operations. The role focuses on planning preventive and corrective maintenance for mechanical systems and equipment, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, licensing commitments, and configuration control. The planner / field engineer also supports capital projects by coordinating field implementation, walkdowns, and project meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently plan detailed mechanical work packages for preventive and corrective maintenance, refuel outages, and forced outages.
- Provide technical guidance and field support for mechanical systems, rotating equipment, piping, pumps, valves, and supporting systems.
- Conduct field walkdowns to identify mechanical problems, gather data, and define scope of work.
- Develop complete work packages that include :
- Historical equipment data and maintenance history
- Plant impact and post-maintenance testing requirements
- Step-by-step written instructions aligned with approved procedures
- Translate engineering design or change documents into executable work packages.
- Identify and requisition all required materials, parts, special tools, and equipment.
- Prepare or assist in the preparation of design change packages and troubleshooting plans as needed.
- Coordinate with Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering to prioritize work based on system needs and plant schedule.
- Monitor mechanical work order backlog and ensure timely preparation of packages based on established priorities.
- Incorporate craft and supervisor feedback to continuously improve work order quality and planning accuracy.
- Ensure all work packages meet plant and industry standards for technical accuracy, clarity, and safety compliance.
