Faculty Position in Special Education

The School of Education (SOE) at the University of California Riverside (UCR) is committed to its mission to advance equitable educational systems and practices which are driven by core values of equity, evidence, excellence, community, critical thinking, and compassion. Located in the Inland empire, a racially and economically diverse region on Tribal lands, UCR is a land-grant public institution designated as a Hispanic serving, Minority Serving, and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution. Within this context, we are seeking a scholar whose research is relevant for teachers and school personnel whose research agenda is aligned with one of the following areas of scholarship : (1) mathematics intervention, (2) writing intervention, (3) behavior interventions. The research agenda will align with meeting the needs of the School of Education and the School districts in the Inland Empire region which includes over 800,000 students, with over 21% designated as students with disabilities and 41% classified as English Language Learners.

Within the designated area of expertise (mathematics or writing or behavior) the area of expertise may include assessment and / or instruction for students with disabilities and students from minoritized backgrounds and communities. Ideally, this scholar will be able to build on our faculty capacity for research and intellectual leadership in diversity. The successful candidate will be a member of the special education faculty and serve the Learning and Behavioral Sciences group (Special Education, Educational Psychology, and School Psychology), but may have collaborative opportunities in other units on campus including the new School of Medicine and School of Public Policy, among others.

Minimum qualifications include (1) an earned doctorate in special education or a related discipline expertise; (2) commitment to advancing education equity through research, teaching, and service; (3) expertise and demonstrated capacity for conducting a research program; (4) a record showing promise with research and scholarly publications (assistant) or an established record of distinguished research and scholarly publications (associate); (5) potential for or success in obtaining external research or training grants; and (6) commitment to and demonstrated excellence in graduate and undergraduate teaching and student mentoring.

Preferred Qualifications : The University of California is committed to excellence and equity in every facet of its mission. Teaching, research, and professional and public service contributions that promote racial, economic, linguistic, and other forms of diversity are encouraged and given recognition in the evaluation of candidate qualifications at the University of California, Riverside. Experience and evidence of commitment to the UCR mission is a preferred qualification for this position. This qualification includes a commitment and ability to integrate social issues related to various aspects of equity, diversity, and social justice into instruction. Contributions that address the needs of California's culturally and linguistically diverse population are particularly desirable.

Academic rank will be contingent on the individual's level of accomplishments in scholarly activity, as well as experience securing and directing grants, teaching, and mentoring graduate students. Salary and research support will be commensurate with an appointment within the University of California system. Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.

Inquiries about the position (not applications) can be sent to Drs. Michael Solis and Eunsoo Cho, Co-chairs of the Search Committee, at msolis@ucr.edu or eunsooc@ucr.edu

Candidates should submit an electronic application to the Academic Personnel System for the University of California, Riverside [https / / aprecruit.ucr.edu / JPF02124] that includes a cover letter describing current and proposed future areas of research, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, evidence of teaching excellence, and the contact information of three references.
