Education-Mentoring Project Manager Intermediate

The University of Michigan's Center for Global Health Equity was launched by a catalytic gift from Dr. Tachi and Leslie Yamada, and was generously matched by the University. The Center brings together faculty and students from across the U-M community, leveraging expertise from multiple disciplines in pursuit of novel solutions to global health challenges that can positively impact individuals in low-resource settings. The Center for Global Health Equity (CGHE) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Project Intermediate Manager to manage and support a comprehensive portfolio of scholar and learners experiential programs. The position is responsible for the coordinated management of the Impact Scholar Program (postdoctoral fellows), administration of graduate and undergraduate student programming, and support of fellowship initiatives. These responsibilities require skillful coordination, organization, student and faculty engagement, and partnership within the center and across campus. Working under the direction of the Center's Associate Director for Education and Mentoring and supervised by the Managing Director, the Project Intermediate Manager will support and lead efforts to design, develop, and evaluate educational programs collaboratively with U-M faculty, international partners, and external stakeholders. There will be a strong emphasis on developing, implementing, and reporting metrics and tactics that measure the direct impact of these initiatives on the world's most vulnerable populations.

What You'll Do

Management of Impact Scholar Program (25%)

  • Lead annual recruitment effort (fall semester) : update application materials, partner with communications for website and promotional content, facilitate proposal review, schedule interviews / presentations, and coordinate candidate selection.
  • Oversee hiring of 2-3 scholars / year : create job postings, coordinate with CGHE administrative partners to partner with HR to obtain background checks / drug screenings, process hiring paperwork, work with visa / immigration support, facilitate access (MCard, keys, laptops).
  • Implement on-boarding and orientation of new scholars : provide overview of U-M and CGHE, review expectations for Impact Scholar program, CGHE policies / guidelines, etc.
  • Plan and implement twice-weekly cohort-based activities for scholars.
  • Monitor access to program-dedicated funds (travel, professional development, research) in partnership with colleagues.
  • Track and report outside activities / conflict of interest for scholars.
  • Serve as a primary contact for scholar / mentor concerns, collaborating with leadership for resolution and policy updates.
  • Ensure regular mentor-mentee meetings and mentorship committee engagement.
  • Facilitate annual appointment reviews, renewals, and scholar off-boarding.

Learners Programming (50%)

  • Execute, track, and evaluate graduate and undergraduate student programs, including Graduate Student Research Internships, Graduate Student Research Development Grants, and the Student Organization Global Health Equity Challenge.
  • Create, revise, and maintain program guides and digital communications (website, M-Compass brochures, promotional materials).
  • Lead targeted student and faculty recruitment for internships and challenges.
  • Manage application processes : eligibility / quality control, operational reviews, graduate program management in M-Compass, undergraduate program applications (Google Forms), interview coordination, and offer extension.
  • Ensure stipend payments and program compliance with travel requirements.
  • Maintain Canvas course sites and relevant communication channels with students.
  • Plan and support workshops, orientations, reflection sessions, and culminating events for students / faculty.
  • Center for Global Health Equity Member Communities and Geographic Interest Groups (10%)

  • Support faculty co-leads in the planning and execution of group meetings, ensuring agendas are developed and distributed in advance.
  • Prepare concise summaries of meetings, circulate notes to participants for feedback and input, and ensure broad communication of group activities and progress.
  • Track, prioritize, and communicate action items resulting from meetings to facilitate focused and meaningful engagement.
  • Follow up with group members to maintain momentum, encourage participation, and advance collaborative efforts in line with the groups objectives.
  • Supervision & Other Learners-Related Work (10%)

  • Supervise and mentor student assistants.
  • Conduct campus outreach as needed.
  • Manage student awards.
  • Center for Global Health Equity Team (5%)

  • Develop and oversee project budgets.
  • Assist with internal grants as needed, including review of grant proposals and reports to leadership.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, responding to evolving program needs and priorities as the landscape of global health education shifts.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues and other areas within CGHE to ensure alignment with team goals and organizational metrics, with success also measured by the ability to work effectively as part of a broader, cohesive team.
  • If / as needed, willingness to engage in a flexible work schedule to attend early morning meetings and / or late meetings and events.

    Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in public health, public policy, business, higher education, or other related field.
  • Five years or more of professional experience related to creating and / or improving personal and professional development programs for academic scholars and college students.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to effectively manage numerous projects, simultaneously and in various stages of development, with a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of job responsibilities; ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Must have strong integrity, be highly proactive, have a high degree of problem-solving skills, be highly reliable, retain a sense of ownership and accountability for workload, be flexible and resilient, provide excellent customer service, and possess expert follow-up skills.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with and build professional relationships with all individuals at all levels; appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Proficient computer skills are essential, including demonstrated proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe PDFs, survey tools such as Qualtrics and Google Forms, and Zoom.
  • Must be productive and flexible under pressure and able to meet deadlines.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of University practices, rules and regulations.
  • Previous experience working on the implementation of health interventions in Low or Middle Income Countries (LMICs) and / or low-resource settings.
  • Deep knowledge and personal experience residing in a LMIC.
  • This position is eligible for flexible (i.e., hybrid) work arrangements requiring a minimum of three days / week in the office. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change based on the business needs of the hiring department, throughout the course of employment. In addition to the regular in office workdays / hours, there will be additional times, some early morning and / or evening hours that require working on-site for events.

    The final salary will be based upon the selected candidate's education and experience.
