Base pay range
$160,000.00 / yr - $175,000.00 / yr

About the Role
As General Counsel, you will act as the company's primary legal advisor and oversee all aspects of legal risk management, litigation, and housing law compliance. You'll directly represent the organization in court proceedings, collaborate with leadership on business decisions, and establish internal legal best practices. This is a hands-on legal role requiring deep expertise in California landlord-tenant law , as well as experience in high-stakes litigation and legal strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and represent the company in landlord-tenant litigation , including unlawful detainers and eviction actions
- Draft, review, and manage legal documents including leases, court filings, and settlement agreements
- Advise executive leadership and property managers on legal compliance and risk mitigation strategies
- Stay ahead of legal developments in California housing law , rent control ordinances, and city-specific regulations
- Manage tenant legal issues across a large and varied property portfolio
- Collaborate with external legal partners when necessary, while leading all internal legal operations
- Create and implement internal legal policies and procedures to reduce risk and improve legal response efficiency
Qualifications
JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice in CaliforniaMinimum 5 years of legal experience , with a strong emphasis on landlord-tenant disputes and real estate litigationProven courtroom litigation experience, including trial strategy and executionExperience handling tenant evictions, maintenance-related disputes, and other common legal matters across a multi-site residential portfolioDeep understanding of Los Angeles and California housing laws , including rent control policiesExcellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently, exercise sound legal judgment, and collaborate across departmentsSalary range : $160,000 -$175,000 annuallyGenerous benefits package including health, dental, vision, and retirement plansOpportunities for professional development and growth within a leading real estate firmAdditional Details
