Overview
Kimley-Horn's Orlando, FL office is seeking a Substation Physical Engineering with 6+ years of experience to join our diverse and fast paced organization.
This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities
- Perform conceptual and detailed HV and MV Substation Physical / Electrical design for utilities / substations (including basic layout, electrical arrangement, one line, three-line drawings, plan-section, grounding, AC and DC system drawings)
- Perform engineering studies and calculations including : Conduit fillBusGroundingLightning ProtectionIlluminationFacility Ratings (FAC)
- Assume the role of technical lead on projects with limited guidance
- Create and review bill of materials for substation physical projects
- Assist with developing and implementing policies, processes, procedures, standards, and technical guidance, as required, to continually improve the engineering capability within the practice
- Plan and lead client meetings (or meeting sections) relating to physical design, as required
- Support the preparation of project proposals and tender presentations
- Perform Quality Control reviews on substation physical packages
- Provide support for continued professional development of less experienced engineers in team, including technical guidance, and recommending training needs to the group
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited engineering program
- Holds an active PE license in the United States
- Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects
- Proficient with MicroStation and / or AutoCAD
- 6+ years of direct substation physical design experience.
- Experience with grounding studies / lightning protection and lighting studies
- Working knowledge of protection and control design
- Experience with bus calculations
- Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS
