Function
The Controller is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting activities of Nizari Progressive Federal Credit Union (Nizari PFCU). This role ensures accuracy, integrity, and compliance in all financial transactions, records, and reports. The Controller provides leadership in accounting operations, oversees internal controls, and supports the CFO in financial planning, audits, and regulatory compliance.
Regular Responsibilities
- Direct daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and NCUA requirements.
- Maintain a system of strong internal controls to safeguard Credit Union assets and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
- Supervise and develop accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and performance management.
- Oversee regulatory reporting to NCUA and other government agencies.
- Support the CFO in annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and support schedules.
- Manage and coordinate external audits and examinations, ensuring all requests are completed accurately and on time.
- Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce reports that guide decision-making.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement improvements to accounting systems and processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accounting and financial needs are met.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.Prior experience in a credit union, bank, or other regulated financial institution preferred.Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory reporting requirements.Required Knowledge
Proficiency in accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.Knowledge of credit union / banking operations and financial regulations.Familiarity with accounting software, financial management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel required).Understanding of internal control frameworks and risk management practices.
