SUMMARY/GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Lands Resource Associate (Apprentice), under the supervision of the Vice President of Lands & Resources, provides general administrative support to the Lands department. The Apprenticeship Program is a work-based learning program that provides on-the-job training alongside experienced staff. The apprentice will support day-to-day operations and assist in other special projects as directed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB FUNCTIONS / ACCOUNTABLE FOR:

  • Provides general administrative support for the department supporting all Lands projects and initiatives as directed.
  • Maintains lands files, ensuring filing is completed in a timely manner in accordance with established
  • Researches and gathers information for reporting and
  • Assists with ensuring land use and resource development activities are carried out in accordance with company policies, best management practices, and pertinent state and federal regulations.
  • Assists with coordination of land planning, surveying, and uses permits with the Corporation’s other development activities.
  • Assists with the activities of permitees, contractors, and lessees to ensure compliance with governmental agency statutes and regulations.
  • Assists with the coordination of on-the-ground administration of existing development or other commercial contracts.
  • Acts as a liaison with adjoining landowners to learn of activities that may impact the Corporation’s land interests, ensuring smooth execution of contractual obligations.
  • Develops and implements strategies to avoid and mitigate trespass issues.
  • Assists management in investigating and determining resource potential, and the market feasibility of company-owned natural resources.
  • Assists in the development of the long-term land use plan.
  • Maintains land base inventory, records, and title system.
  • Maintains natural resource inventory.
  • Processes permit, lease, access, and easement requests from third parties, and prepares monthly land use and revenue summary report.
  • Conducts resource development planning and field layout of improvements.
  • Prepares monthly cutting, mining, or other harvest/extraction reports and depletion maps.
  • Analyzes and provides written comments on proposed governmental actions and regulations that affect the Corporation.
  • Travels to remote locations occasionally.
  • Attends Shareholder Program Participant meetings.
  • Supports various regional shareholder events, as directed.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Professional Associations):

Mandatory:

  • Must be a Chugach Alaska Corporation Shareholder or descendant of a CAC
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry, Geology, Natural Resources, or related field/experience.
  • Willingness to learn land ownership, title and conveyance processes, and governmental permitting processes.
  • Demonstrated intermediate skills in the use of Excel, Word, and
  • Valid state Driver’s License with an acceptable driving
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Ability to enroll in Chugach’s Training Without Walls certification within one year of employment.

Knowledge Of: administrative procedures, policies and practices, operation of common office machinery including copiers, fax machines, and computers, land surveying principles and practices, financial analysis calculations, GIS system, and knowledge of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) and how it impacts the Chugach Region.

Ability To : maintain confidentiality and high attention to detail, communicate effectively orally and in writing, deal with people in a professional and courteous manner, exercise good judgment and initiative; prioritize projects and complete in accordance with established deadlines; perform duties in a timely, cost-effective manner; work with a team or independently with little or no supervision; provide appropriate follow up; balance multiple tasks; prioritizes projects in spite of constant interruptions, communicate effectively with individuals and groups, maintain office efficiency at all times, maintain a high degree of accuracy for all work, perform duties in a timely and cost-effective manner, maintain confidentiality, deal with a variety of people in a professional and courteous manner in diversified situations, work under pressure, complete work assignments and meet numerous required deadlines, organizational ability, and initiative, multi-task easily, and safely conduct remote field work.
