Overview
The Central Scheduler accepts and processes requests to schedule outpatient tests / procedures using the EPIC Cadence Scheduling system. They aim to obtain patient pre-registration data during scheduling and perform patient pre-registration in the Hospital Information System (EPIC). The scheduler facilitates coordinated patient and service department schedules and answers patient questions regarding their tests and procedures. They may work extended hours as needed to complete their responsibilities.
Responsibilities
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (

- Schedule patients via telephone or faxed scripts and process patient registrations.
- Obtain authorizations and referrals.
- Verify insurance and demographic information.
- Confirm patient appointments and preparation instructions.
- Ensure pre-certifications, authorizations, and referrals are obtained prior to services.
Qualifications
JOB SPECIFICATIONS (Minimum Requirements)
Knowledge of scheduling patients according to departmental guidelines.Adherence to the Red Flag Rule when registering patients.Ability to obtain pre-certifications, authorizations, and referrals prior to services.Ask and update MSPQ at each patient visit without relying on prior visit information.Maintain productivity by processing labs, pre-registering patients, or managing work queues when not scheduling or registering patients.Scan all necessary documentation accurately, including scripts.Correctly select medical records and hospital accounts.Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and exercise good judgment.Good written and verbal communication skills.Strong organizational, analytical skills, and mathematical aptitude.Proficient with calculators and typing at least 45 WPM.Basic computer skills.EDUCATION
High school diploma or GED required.Associates in Business Management preferred.One year of responsible work experience in hospital registration or medical office required; post-secondary education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOR
