Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg position on a busy post-surgical floor with a Level II trauma designation and EPIC charting.
Responsibilities
Work in an acute care hospital setting on a 30-bed Med / Surg unitPatient population includes total joint replacement, spinal surgery, urologic procedures, abdominal surgeries, bariatrics, medical overflow, and frequent post-surgical drainsDay shift, 12-hour shifts, with every other weekend requiredNurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 4-5 on days and 1 : 5-6 on nightsFirst to float to medical and telemetry units as neededOccasional management of heparin drips, PCA pumps, and TPNEPIC EMR is used on the unitCharge nurse present each shift; nurse assistants available with a 1 : 12 ratioRemote telemetry monitored by dedicated monitor techsNo strip reading required by RNBedside shift report is standard practice on this unitStrong, collaborative unit culture and supportive team environmentOrientation includes 12 hours of trainingFlexible scrub color policy allows any color scrubsHoliday shifts required as needed based on unit needsRTO (up to 7 days) must be requested up front; additional RTO is not permittedFirst-time travelers will be consideredCandidates must live more than 50 miles from the facilityApplicants must not be currently or recently employed (within one year) by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities in any capacity except through outside firmsRequirements
Active ND or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not acceptedMinimum 2 years of recent Med / Surg nursing experience requiredCurrent BLS certification requiredSurgical, post-op, or early ambulation experience preferredProfile must include two professional references—one recent supervisor reference from the last 12 months and another peer or supervisor reference from the last 3 yearsCopy of driver’s license required for considerationBenefits
