Department Information

The Wellness Empowerment Center provides upstream, innovative, and relevant programs, services and initiatives to help students and employees thrive.

The team creatively designs prevention and education efforts to promote, nurture, and enrich the Georgia Tech community of health, well-being, and caring.

Services include health and well-being educational programs, events and workshops, nutrition counseling, and sexual violence prevention, education and response.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating Georgia Tech's VOICE advocacy and support program within the Wellness Empowerment Center.

Provide direct service, confidential crisis counseling, referrals, and advocacy to students who seek support because of sexual and relationship violence.

Coordinate campus and community resources to support survivors of sexual violence. Assess needs and develop long and short-range program goals and conduct training and education programs.

Assist with planning, implementation and evaluation of health education strategies aimed at influencing health behaviors of college students.

This position will interact on a consistent basis with : students, faculty, and staff in the Wellness Empowerment Center, Stamps Health Services staff, Title IX Coordinator, Dean of Students Housing / Residence Life, Women's Resource Center, and Georgia Tech Police department.

This position will typically advise and counsel : students with concerns about sexual assault. This position will supervise : NA.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Provide support and advocacy services to voices of sexual assault. Support Georgia Tech's 24-hour on-call system for emergency response with relevant training and consultation.

Respond to crisis situations after hours and on weekends, as assigned. Consult with students who are impacted by sexual and relationship violence.

Job Duty 2 -

Provide individual support for survivors, including case management related to health care, safety, housing, and academic needs.

Provide referrals to law enforcement, Title IX, Stamps Health Services, Center for Mental Health Care & Resources, and / or other campus community resources.

Offer hospital and court accompaniment, and serve as an advisor for on-campus judicial processes. Engage with survivors to provide clear and timely information to enable informed decisions at their pace.

Job Duty 3 -

Develop and implement an advocacy protocol, to include providing support for survivors navigating campus and court investigation and judicial processes.

Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive sexual violence prevention strategy, including awareness and survivor support education programs for all incoming students, ongoing awareness programming, and other initiatives.

Analyze and maintain data relevant to compliance with federal legislation related to sexual violence education, prevention, and response.

Job Duty 4 -

Coordinate campus and community resources to support survivors of sexual assault. Collaborate with key stakeholders on campus, including the Title IX Coordinator, to develop a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach for responding to, advocating for, and supporting survivors.

Coordinate consistent reporting of incidents of sexual misconduct and corresponding protocols, complying with federal, state, and university guidelines.

Forecast survivor and community response needs.

Job Duty 5 -

Develop and implement education programs and communication campaigns related to sexual assault / relationship violence prevention.

Coordinate survivor support education campaigns on campus, such as Orientation and ongoing programs for residence hall communities, athletic teams, fraternities, and sororities.

Provide training, technical assistance, and consultation with members of the university on issues related to sexual assault, survivor support, intimate partner violence, stalking dynamics, VOICE resources, and VOICE-centered approaches.

Job Duty 6 -

Participate in overall activities and mission of the Wellness Empowerment Center, including the VOICE initiative. Develop and implement collaborative programming within the Wellness Empowerment Center.

May work with the campus community and Student Health Services staff to assess the needs and develop strategies to meet the health needs of GT students on a variety of core health issues, such as alcohol, sexual health, nutrition, stress management, and sexual violence prevention.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in public health, community health, social work, health policy, counseling, health promotion, health education, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Required Qualifications

Must be able to work flexible evening and weekend schedule, as necessary. Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances, infectious patients, and infectious materials.

Required Experience

Two to three years of job-related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Rape Crisis Counseling. Experience working in a University environment. Knowledge of health promotion, behavior changes and population-based theories, evidence-based health promotion programs / initiatives, environmental management strategies / ecological model, and student development theories and models.

Knowledge of the ACHA Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education. Use of electronic medical records, computer skills including email and Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred Educational Qualifications

Master's or Advanced Degree in public health, social work, health policy, counseling, health promotion, health education, student affairs or related field

Preferred Experience

Certification in Rape Crisis Counseling

Preferred Qualifications

Advocacy experience strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS

Crisis intervention and counseling experience, ability to handle confidential information in a sensitive manner and use sound judgment in responding to crisis situations.

Sexual assault advocacy training and sexual assault response experience. Knowledge of the psychological impact of trauma and implications for advocacy.

Experience providing trauma-informed and culturally relevant training to diverse audiences. Ability to work with students, staff, faculty, senior administration, parents, and other stakeholders.

Knowledge of and experience in working with adolescents or young adults required. Interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills.

Knowledge of federal and state legislation related to sexual assault and relationship violence prevention and response, including Title IX and Clery guidance and regulations.
