Overview
The County Executive's Office is seeking an experienced and highly skilled professional to fill the position of Contract Administrator I / II .
The Contract Administrator I / II will support the County Executive, Assistant County Executive, and Deputy County Executives in the development of well-negotiated contracts that align with County goals and will monitor the subsequent expenditures and progress toward those goals. In addition, the Contract Administrator will work closely with the Chief Legislative Aides of the Board of Supervisors and will support the Project Development Unit of the County Executives Office. The Contract Administrator will also work closely with the County Attorneys Office for legal guidance and support.
The Contract Administrator will play a key role in drafting agreements for a variety of essential services that have a countywide impact, including the discretionary expenditure of Measure K funds by the Board of Supervisors. Toward that end, the Contract Administrator will work closely with the Chief Legislative Aides of the Board of Supervisors. The Contract Administrator will also support the Project Development Unit by developing contracts for their construction projects. The Contract Administrator will also create contracts for legislative and lobbying expenditures, community impact projects, and partnerships with nonprofit organizations. Critical to success will be the ability to foster effective communication with department heads, community leaders, and other stakeholders. Also critical will be the ability to work collaboratively with the County Attorneys Office and the ability to ensure all contract work is complete, consistent, and error-free. Important in the position will be the ability to draft, review, and analyze Board Memos to ensure compliance and accuracy.

This position will be filled at the Contract Administrator I or the Contract Administrator II level depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
Contract Administrator I is the first working level class in the Contract Administrator series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents perform basic contract administration duties while learning County and programmatic policies, procedures and guidelines. As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. This class is flexibly staffed with the Contract Administrator II and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency, which meet the qualifications of the higher-level class. The annual salary range for Contract Administrator I is $85,488 - $106,870.
Contract Administrator II is the fully experienced, journey level class in this series, capable of independently performing the full range of contract administration duties. Employees are normally given substantial latitude in determining approaches, procedures, systems, and methods in accomplishing the work goals. They make basic programmatic decisions that require the exercise of independent judgment and are responsible for coordinating multiple functions or processes. Incumbents at this level are typically assigned the more complex contracts. The annual salary range for Contract Administrator II is $100,381 - $125,403.
This position is a full-time, on-site position. The office is at 500 County Center in Redwood City, CA.

Open to all applicants. Current County of San Mateo employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in classified regular, probationary, extra-help, or limited term positions prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on the examination.
The examination process will consist of an Application Screening (weight : pass / fail), and a Panel Interview (weight : 100%), which may include the evaluation of a brief writing exercise given immediately preceding the interview. Applicants must successfully pass the Application Screening to move forward to the interview. Candidates must successfully pass the interview to be placed on the hiring (eligible) list. Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations, or further evaluation of work experience may be conducted to group applicants by level of qualification. All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. All examinations will be given in San Mateo County, California, and applicants must participate at their own expense. Interviews may be conducted virtually using MS Teams.
