The Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing will areas of potential need for interventions for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.

The teacher will provide direct and indirect instruction to DHH students, using specialized techniques and materials to teach auditory skills, speech / language development, self advocacy, and academic content.

The teacher will collaborate and partner with other school staff and general education teachers to develop and implement annual IEPs, write IEP goals, and determine IEP accommodations.

TOD may provide direct services 1 : 1, in small groups, or provide pull-out or push-in classroom services.The teacher will monitor the use of communication access technology / services to support academic achievement and successful communication for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.

The teacher will provide direct services to a caseload of students who are deaf and hard of hearing using best practices and consult with teams on eligibility and accessibility.

Qualified applicants will hold a Special Education license and DHH licensure. The Hawaii State Department of Education is committed to hiring highly qualified teachers in every classroom.

With the exception of designated Career and Technology Education (CTE) positions, the minimum qualification to apply for a teacher, librarian or counselor position is a Bachelor's Degree.

If you are hired without completing a Teacher's Education Program, you have a maximum of 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license.

You must enroll in a Program to continue employment with the Department. Within each year of employment, you must satisfactorily demonstrate active pursuit towards meeting Hawaii licensing requirements, as set forth by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB).

It is your responsibility to ensure the program you have enrolled is aligned with the teaching line you are hired in.
