Patent Secretary

📍 Washington, DC | $80,000 – $100,000 | Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote)

We are partnering with a boutique patent law firm known for its happy employees, collaborative culture, and excellent benefits. This is a great opportunity to join a supportive team of attorneys and staff with long tenure and strong training.

The Role

The Patent Secretary will provide patent legal secretarial and administrative support to attorneys across patent prosecution and litigation practices. This is a full-time hybrid position in the Washington, DC office.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file new applications (Provisional, National Phase, Continuation, Divisional, CIP)
  • Review and process USPTO formalities (Filing Receipts, Notices of Missing Parts, Notices of Publication)
  • Draft and file responses, amendments, IDS’s, and petitions
  • Revise documents (including TOCs and TOAs for briefs)
  • Arrange attorney travel and process expense reports
  • Manage time entry and electronic filing
  • Provide occasional reception coverage and other administrative duties

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of patent prosecution experience (litigation experience a plus)
  • Proficient in USPTO Patent Center
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite and document management systems (e.g., iManage)
  • Accurate typing skills (60+ WPM)
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and attention to detail skills
  • Bachelor’s or associate degree preferred but not required

    • Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, 8 : 30 a.m.–5 : 00 p.m. (1-hour lunch)
  • Flexibility for overtime as needed
