Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, academic enrichment, social-emotional learning, literacy development, and creative expression, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces where young people can thrive.
Partnerships are at the heart of MAP’s impact. By building strong relationships with schools, nonprofits, government agencies, and private sector allies, MAP expands opportunities, strengthens resources, and ensures that every child has access to the guidance and support they deserve.
Role Overview
The Director of Partnerships will lead the cultivation, development, and management of MAP’s external relationships. This role will be central in identifying and securing new partners, deepening existing collaborations, and aligning partnerships with MAP’s mission and long-term vision.
The ideal candidate is an experienced relationship-builder who understands how to engage diverse stakeholders and create mutual value. They will ensure that partnerships not only expand MAP’s reach but also deliver measurable impact for students and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement MAP’s partnership strategy to strengthen external relationships and opportunities
- Cultivate new partnerships with schools, nonprofits, community organizations, government agencies, and corporate partners
- Manage and expand existing partnerships to ensure alignment and impact
- Collaborate with MAP’s program directors (MAP Connect, MAP Roots, Thread & Promise, MAP Research) to integrate partnerships into program delivery
- Represent MAP in external meetings, presentations, and community forums
- Support fundraising and development initiatives by leveraging partnerships for resources and visibility
- Maintain accurate records of partnership activity, progress, and outcomes
- Check and respond to emails daily, with all responses completed within 48 hours
- Take responsibility for performance improvement by monitoring partnership outcomes, identifying challenges, and implementing solutions
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, nonprofit management, business, or related field (advanced degree preferred but not required)Proven experience in partnership development, fundraising, or external relations, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven settingStrong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholdersExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple partnerships and priorities with attention to detailFamiliarity with education, housing, or social services in New York City is an assetCommitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting underserved communitiesCommitment
