Auricle Productions is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit environmental journalism organization. Our team produces Threshold, a Peabody Award-winning podcast about people and our complex relationships with the natural world.
We are seeking an experienced nonprofit bookkeeper to support our operations. The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with budget management and reporting, and ensuring that the organization’s financial records are current, organized, and compliant with nonprofit accounting standards and regulations.
This is a fully remote, part-time, contract role. They will primarily work with the part-time contracted operations director and may periodically interact with other team members.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Maintain accurate accrual-based accounting records in QuickBooks Online (QBO)
Ensure that all income and expenses are appropriately categorized in QBOEnsure donations, grants, contracts, pledges, etc., are correctly recorded in QBOReconcile monthly bank, credit card, loan, and investment account statementsEnter biweekly payroll data and allocations in the accounting systemPost adjustments and journal entries to the general ledgerComplete periodic reviews of accounts in QBO to ensure accuracyFinancial recordkeepingMaintain an organized, consistent, and current filing system for all financial records.
Ensure all invoices, receipts, payroll paperwork, reimbursements, insurance information, and other financial records are filed on Google DriveFinancial reportingPrepare monthly financial statements and review them with the operations director two weeks before the monthly board meeting
Work with the operations director to prepare and maintain the annual budget and forecast, including monthly budget-to-actualsPrepare financial reports as requestedFinancial Policies and ProceduresHelp develop and maintain financial policies and procedures that promote sound financial management practices and internal controls
Taxes and annual dutiesManage year-end close out
Prepare and generate 1099 forms for contractors accurately and promptly, adhering to IRS guidelines and regulations.Assist with annual Form 990 preparationSKILLS + EXPERIENCE
5+ years of experience in nonprofit bookkeepingThorough understanding of accounting and bookkeeping best practices, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and GAAP rules for nonprofitsHigh level of proficiency (3+ years of experience) working with QuickBooks Online, including preparing standard and custom reportsFluency with creating and updating complex spreadsheets in Google SheetsExcellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial recordkeepingHigh ethical standards and commitment to maintaining confidentialityDemonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belongingSTRUCTURE + LOCATION
This is a remote, part-time, hourly, limited-term, independent contractor (1099) position with a flexible schedule. Hours will be between 5 and 15 hours per month.
