Legal Assistant
Direct Hire - In Office
Salary : $55,000 to $65,000
A respected law firm with a strong reputation in insurance defense and medical malpractice litigation is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join its team. This position requires at least three years of experience in insurance defense, preferably within medical malpractice or healthcare-related practice areas. The ideal candidate will be a proactive professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering high-quality legal and administrative support.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and coordinate complex attorney calendars, including scheduling depositions, hearings, meetings, inspections, and other key deadlines.
- Draft, proofread, and format correspondence, pleadings, discovery, and other legal documents with precision and attention to detail.
- Manage time entry, pre-billing, and final billing for assigned attorneys, ensuring compliance with client guidelines.
- Open new matters, process conflict checks, and prepare files for closing at the conclusion of cases.
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, and team members; handle routine inquiries and direct calls appropriately.
- Coordinate document management and case organization, ensuring all materials are properly stored and easily accessible.
- File and serve documents electronically through Florida e-filing systems (E-Portal, JAWS, CM / ECF, etc.).
- Perform various administrative duties, including correspondence, file management, expense reports, CLE tracking, and check requests.
Qualifications & Skills
Minimum of 3-5 years of legal assistant experience in insurance defense, preferably in medical malpractice or healthcare litigation.Strong understanding of Florida court filing procedures and e-filing systems.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong grammar, formatting, and proofreading ability.Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Dependable, professional, and team-oriented work ethic.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable learning firm-specific software and litigation management platforms.High school diploma or equivalent required; further education or certification a plus.This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established defense firm that values teamwork.
