Job Details : Purpose

Purpose

The Integrated Health Program (IHP) is a collaboration between the Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) and University Health Services (UHS) where counselors work with the medical providers to improve the well-being of UT Austin students.

This position is for a counselor who will work as part of a small team of mental health providers embedded within the student medical center and provide collaborative care by offering short-term individual counseling, crisis counseling, and group counseling as well as other related modalities of care.

Weekly professional development and consultation are part of our working environment.

Responsibilities

Provide short-term individual and group counseling as well as crisis interventions to undergraduate and graduate students.

Conduct initial assessments of students' presenting concerns. Provide treatment recommendations and conduct short-term counseling with students referred for service.

Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all service contacts as required by center policies and procedures.

Develop and implement programmatic interventions which address the psycho-social mental health needs of students as applicable.

Develop and facilitate groups in accordance with program needs.

Provide clinical consultation to others on an as-needed basis and seek consultation when appropriate. Provide brief crisis consultation to students who present in the medical clinics with urgent mental health needs, as necessary.

Work collaboratively and cooperatively with medical providers in UHS and other mental health professionals on CMHC's multidisciplinary staff as well as with other university departments and organizations.

Review client record to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered. Maintain current, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal law, professional ethics, and CMHC policies.

Coordinate referrals between UHS / CMHC and university or community service providers.

Provide clinical training and supervision to social work or psychology interns, as well as pre-doctoral psychology practicum students, when applicable.

Provide individual supervision of interns, practicum students, or psychiatric nurse practitioners.

Provide individual supervision of group co-leaders who are not independently licensed.

Supervise interns' supervision of practicum students, when applicable.

Offer and supervise preceptorships and apprenticeships for interns.

Participate on training-related committees, as needed.

Maintain timely signature on supervisee's clinical documentation and communicate with supervisor of record on relevant issues.

Other required activities

Attend and participate in departmental and division meetings and staff development programs as assigned.

Participate in prevention and outreach activities, as needed.

Comply with all CMHC, UHS and UT policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

License Requirement

Professional Counselor :

Licensed to practice independently as a professional counselor in Texas

Or if licensed in another state, must be able to obtain license to practice independently in Texas within one year

Clinical Social Work :

Licensed to practice independently as a Clinical Social Worker in Texas

Or if licensed in another state, must be able to obtain license to practice independently in Texas within one year

Psychology :

Licensed to practice independently as a Psychologist in Texas

Or if licensed in another state, must be able to obtain license to practice independently in Texas within one year.

Educational Requirements

Professional Counseling :

Master's Degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work or other degree which meets eligibility requirement in Texas for licensure and licensed as a Professional Counselor or the equivalent from another state must be able to obtain licensure in Texas within one year if licensed in another state.

LPCi will not be considered.

Two years post masters clinical experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant clinical setting.

Clinical Social Work :

Master's Degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work or other degree which meets eligibility requirement in Texas for licensure and licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or the equivalent from another state must be able to obtain licensure in Texas within one year if licensed in another state.

Two years post masters clinical experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant clinical setting.

Psychology :

Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology or other degree acceptable to the Texas Board of Examiners of Psychology.

Licensed as a Psychologist or the equivalent from another state must be able to obtain licensure in Texas within one year if licensed in another state.

One-year, full-time equivalent, post-doctoral clinical experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant clinical setting.

Other Qualifications

Licensed to practice independently (Level II)

Licensed in the state of Texas

Experience working collaboratively in a mental health setting

Three years of experience in counseling

Significant, focused experience in providing brief individual therapy and crisis intervention

Excellent verbal and communication skills

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Experience working in a high demand setting

Experience working effectively and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team integrating both a medical model and a developmental perspective

Experience providing mental health consultation to other professionals

Experience working in a medical setting

Experience working with college-age population

Experience working with a varied population

Salary Range

LCSW / LPC - $60,420 + depending on qualifications

Psychology - $72,000 + depending on qualifications
