Under the direct supervision of the Drainage Crew Leader and / or their designated representative, the Stormwater / Drainage Tech I employee will be responsible for maintaining all drainage ways in the City of Kyle. The incumbent's work schedule will be established by the supervisor and may include rotational on-call weekend schedules and possible overtime due to the nature of the position. This position is also considered to be a member of the City Emergency Response Team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
Maintain all drainage ways and associated areas; including but not limited to brush / debris haul off, slope / embankment rebuilding, silt fence installation, re-seeding or sodding, curlex, mulch tubes, rock berms, inlet box protection, and assorted items of this nature.Must be able to learn to operate various pieces of equipment such as : a skid steer, backhoe, excavators, gradall, hydro mulcher, bulldozers, blades, loaders, dump trucks, water trucks, haul trucks, etc.Minimum / Preferred Qualifications, Experience, and / or Certifications Required :
High School Diploma or G.E.D.1 year combination of training and / or experience which evidences a comprehensive knowledge of required job duties and expectations.Reliable transportation and reside within forty-five (45) minutes of the Public Works Department to be called in after work hours in emergencies.Valid State of Texas Driver's License.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Thorough knowledge of helping in creation and implementation of sustainable landscape plans.Must have intermediate to advanced personal computer skills including, but not limited to, GIS, CAD, Microsoft office and ability to learn new computer / information systems.Adhering to watering restrictions and applying for watering variances for new landscaping.Using line locator devices.Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing including use of good grammar and conveying information in a tactful, concise, and professional manner.Must have polished and proven people skills with a focus of being able to interact well with a diverse population, provide excellent customer service, ability to diffuse conflict situations, and problem resolution.Ability to prioritize, plan and organize multiple tasks and proactively problem solve.Techniques for dealing effectively with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff.Skilled in :
Knowledge or training of the methods, tools and equipment of assigned trade area.Working knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment of other maintenance functions.Ability to maintain records on materials needed and used.General operational knowledge, experience, and / or familiarity with all Public Works machinery and equipment.Written Communication / Language Skills - Able to read and interpret written information. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Organizational Support-Follows policies and procedures.Judgment - Includes appropriate people in decision-making process.Planning / Organizing - Uses time efficiently.Meets productivity standards; completes work in a timely manner.Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.Employment with the City of Kyle is contingent upon the outcome of record checks and verifications including, but not limited to, criminal history, driving records, education records, employment verifications, reference checks, and employment eligibility verifications. Selected candidates for positions will be subject to a background investigation and to pre-employment drug screen, depending on the position, may require a physical assessment upon a conditional job offer.
