Summary
The Learning Engineer supports the design, development, coordination, and evaluation of curriculum, instructional systems, and learning experiences across research, education, and workforce development initiatives. This role operates at the intersection of learning sciences, instructional design, and translating complex concepts into structured, scalable learning solutions. The position contributes to projects spanning K–12, higher education, and maritime training environments, including technology-enabled and experiential learning contexts. Responsibilities include developing instructional materials, aligning learning objectives with competencies, supporting research-informed training interventions, and coordinating with interdisciplinary teams. The Learning Engineer also supports outreach, program implementation, and continuous improvement efforts, ensuring that learning experiences are aligned with organizational goals, stakeholder needs, and evolving workforce demands. Job Responsibilities: Design, develop, and refine curriculum, instructional content, and multimodal learning materials (, digital modules, simulations, hands-on activities, instructional guides) across educational and training programs.This position is being filled through the Research Foundation, which is a separate entity from Old Dominion University (ODU). While we work in support of ODU, the Research Foundation operates independently and is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization.
