A private family in the Nashville area is seeking a warm, dependable and attentive weekend nanny who genuinely enjoys helping children learn, grow and feel supported.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who understands that quality childcare is built on patience, consistency, safety, encouragement and meaningful engagement. The selected nanny will help create a calm and positive environment where the child can learn, play, follow a healthy routine and feel comfortable throughout the day.

The ideal candidate will bring both heart and professionalism into the home. We are looking for someone who can take initiative, communicate clearly, remain actively engaged and provide the family with peace of mind.

Position Overview

This is an active childcare position, not a passive supervision role.

The weekend nanny must remain present, attentive and involved throughout the entire shift. The selected candidate will support the child’s safety, routine, learning, meals, hygiene, activities and emotional well-being.

The nanny should be comfortable working independently while following the family’s specific instructions, preferences and household routines.

Childcare Responsibilities

The weekend nanny will:

  • Provide attentive and nurturing supervision throughout the entire shift.

  • Maintain the child’s safety at all times.

  • Follow the family’s established routines and instructions.

  • Support age-appropriate independence.

  • Encourage curiosity, creativity, confidence and kindness.

  • Provide calm and respectful redirection.

  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries.

  • Communicate promptly regarding concerns or changes.

  • Provide clear updates about the child’s day.

  • Remain alert and responsive throughout the shift.

  • Avoid excessive personal telephone use while responsible for the child.

Learning and Development

The nanny should be comfortable planning meaningful, age-appropriate activities that support learning, communication, creativity and social development.

Activities may include:

  • Reading together

  • Alphabet practice

  • Number recognition

  • Educational games

  • Puzzles

  • Music and movement

  • Arts and crafts

  • Sensory activities

  • Creative play

  • Imaginative play

  • Age-appropriate learning exercises

  • Outdoor play

  • Walks

  • Park visits

  • Approved community activities

The nanny should balance structured learning with free play, meals, rest, personal care and outdoor activities.

Activities must be safe, engaging and appropriate for the child’s interests, abilities and developmental level.

Meals and Snacks

The nanny may be responsible for:

  • Preparing lunch and dinner

  • Preparing age-appropriate snacks

  • Following the family’s dietary instructions

  • Maintaining a calm and safe mealtime routine

  • Encouraging appropriate table manners

  • Monitoring food and fluid intake

  • Cleaning dishes after meals

  • Wiping counters and eating surfaces

  • Returning the kitchen to a clean and organized condition

  • Promptly reporting food reactions, choking concerns, vomiting or other significant issues

The nanny must follow all family instructions regarding food allergies, dietary restrictions and approved foods.

Personal Care and Hygiene

Depending on the child’s needs, responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with bathing

  • Supporting handwashing and hygiene routines

  • Assisting with toileting when needed

  • Helping with dressing

  • Supporting hair and grooming routines

  • Encouraging age-appropriate independence

  • Maintaining the child’s privacy and dignity

  • Keeping personal-care supplies organized

  • Reporting skin concerns, injuries or changes immediately

Personal care must always be provided with patience, respect and appropriate boundaries.

Positive Behavior Support

The nanny should use calm, respectful and age-appropriate approaches when supporting behavior.

Expectations include:

  • Using positive reinforcement

  • Providing clear and consistent directions

  • Offering appropriate choices

  • Using calm redirection

  • Helping the child identify and express emotions

  • Encouraging respectful communication

  • Avoiding yelling, threats, humiliation or physical punishment

  • Following the family’s approved behavior-support expectations

  • Communicating significant behavioral concerns to the family

Child-Related Household Support

This position includes light household responsibilities directly related to the child and the child’s daily routine.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Washing, drying, folding and putting away the child’s laundry

  • Changing the child’s bedding when necessary

  • Organizing clothing and supplies

  • Cleaning toys and activity materials

  • Keeping the bedroom and play area organized

  • Cleaning food and dishes after meals

  • Returning activity areas to an orderly condition

  • Keeping commonly used areas safe and free from hazards

  • Replenishing child-related supplies when directed

  • Leaving the home organized and ready for the family at the end of the shift

This position does not require unrelated heavy housekeeping.

Outdoor and Community Activities

When approved by the family, the nanny may:

  • Supervise outdoor play.

  • Take the child on walks.

  • Visit a nearby park.

  • Participate in approved community activities.

  • Encourage physical movement and age-appropriate exercise.

  • Maintain close supervision in public areas.

  • Follow all family safety instructions.

  • Keep the family informed of planned activities and locations.

The child may only be transported in a vehicle when specifically authorized by the family and after all transportation, insurance and safety requirements have been satisfied.

  • Mood and behavior

  • Outdoor activities

  • Injuries or safety concerns

  • Changes in routine

  • Supplies that may be needed

  • Any significant concern that occurred during the shift

Ideal Candidate

  • Naturally comfortable working with children

  • Dependable and punctual

  • Calm during challenging moments

  • Attentive to safety

  • Respectful of the family’s home and belongings

  • Comfortable preparing meals

  • Comfortable supporting hygiene and toileting

  • Comfortable completing child-related laundry and cleaning

  • Flexible when the day does not go exactly as planned

  • Committed to protecting the child’s privacy

Professional Expectations
