This enhances the student's ability to conceptualize ideas and formulate them into artistic visions. Contemporary thinking about theatre and related arts emphasizes a social consciousness that is the foundation for lives of accomplishment within a pluralistic society. Theatre provides a community-based experience that trains students in the intra and inter-personal skills that help them relate cooperatively to others of diverse ages and backgrounds. Experience in the group process encourages collaboration, communication, and the ability to think critically. Students can apply these competencies to all fields in which creative and interactive skills are factors in success. In this way, the students of Theater & Dance at Dominguez Hills learn how to prosper in their careers and find meaning in their lives. The Position The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available. Responsibilities Teach assigned lower and upper division courses in the department’s curriculum and serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load. Courses may include all levels of acting, theatrical design and technology and related theatre courses. Qualifications Required Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline. Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching. Applicants must have experience in teaching and working with colleagues from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications A Master’s degree or MFA in [Theatre] or related discipline and prior college-level teaching experience and relevant industry experience. Employment Requirement Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. Additional Information Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. The US Equivalency certification is used to validate foreign studies from an academic credential evaluation agency and is evaluated on foreign studies and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from the United States. The certification must translate the information in English, and confirm that your highest terminal degree is US Equivalent to a US terminal degree (i.e., Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate’s, Doctor’s of Philosophy).
