  • One or more years’ Fiber optic splicing and testing experience (fusion splicing, OTDR/OLTS). (Preferred)
  • One or more years’ experience with nurse call, access control, CCTV/VMS, paging/intercom, or BAS controls. (Preferred)
  • One or more years’ experience installing pathways/supports (cable tray, conduit, innerduct) and coordinating electrical power drops with licensed electricians. (Preferred)
  • One or more years’ experience with firestopping methods and documentation. (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

Essential Functions

  • Install, route, secure, and support low-voltage cabling (Cat6/6A, fiber, coax, multi-conductor) in ceilings, walls, racks, conduits, and cable tray per code and hospital standards.
  • Terminate and dress cables on patch panels, jacks, 66/110 blocks, fiber panels, and device endpoints; verify pinouts, polarity, and bend-radius requirements.
  • Install and service devices and pathways for hospital systems such as nurse call, access control, CCTV, intercom/paging, clock systems, BAS controls, and other ELV infrastructure (as assigned).
  • Perform testing and certification (e.g., Fluke/cable certifiers, OTDR/OLTS for fiber as applicable); document results and correct deficiencies.
  • Troubleshoot faults (opens, shorts, grounds, intermittent issues, PoE problems) and coordinate repairs to restore service with minimal downtime.
  • Assist with electrical installation tasks within role scope and facility policy, such as mounting backboards, racks, cabinets, and enclosures; installing innerduct, sleeves, and supports; and installing or replacing low-voltage power supplies/transformers.
  • Install surface raceway and related fittings; assist with pathway work such as pulling in existing conduit and supporting conduit/cable tray work under direction of Facilities or licensed electricians (as required by jurisdiction).
  • Support device power needs by installing receptacles or circuit extensions only when permitted by licensing and policy; otherwise coordinate power work with licensed electricians and verify device power/UPS requirements.
  • Verify grounding and bonding continuity for racks, cabinets, and shielded cable systems; coordinate corrective actions when deficiencies are found.
  • Assist with cutovers and outages by following approved downtime procedures, coordinating with clinical staff, and documenting system impairments/restorations.
  • Label cables, ports, circuits (when applicable), and equipment consistently; update as-builts, cable schedules, and work order notes.
  • Read and interpret drawings, riser diagrams, floor plans, and specifications; identify conflicts and propose routing solutions.
  • Maintain infection-control practices (ICRA) including containment barriers, negative air coordination (as required), cleaning of work areas, and proper waste disposal.
  • Work safely in patient-care and sensitive areas (ORs, ICUs, imaging, labs), coordinating access, escorts, noise restrictions, and after-hours windows.
  • Follow safe work practices including lockout/tagout coordination (as applicable), ladder/lift safety, and PPE requirements; maintain a clean, organized job site and protect occupied spaces.
  • Comply with hospital safety, security, and privacy requirements including badging, background checks, and HIPAA-aware conduct.
  • Coordinate with electricians, network/telecom teams, vendors, and general contractors; communicate status, risks, and completion timelines.
