Job description

K-6 Elementary Coordinator

Livonia Public Schools is committed to molding creative, forward-thinking students who are people of character and contributing members of society. We are seeking a positive and impactful leader in the area of elementary teaching and learning. The K-6 Elementary Coordinator position will provide leadership in coordinating the development of the K-6 curriculum in literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies; planning and implementing effective professional learning programs; identifying and communicating research-based, effective instructional and assessment strategies; planning, monitoring, and evaluating assessment results; and selecting and planning for the purchase of print and digital textbooks, paper and online instructional resources, and other content-area materials. The responsibilities of this role will require ongoing planning and coordination with other coordinators, school and district administrators, and directors. The K-6 Elementary Coordinator reports to the Chief Academic Officer.

Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,850 staff members, serving approximately 13,100 students pre-K post secondary. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center, and 1 vocational and transition center in the school district. The annual budget for Livonia Public Schools is $190 million, with a state funding of $10,050 per pupil.

Benefits of working with Livonia Public Schools include a traditional pension and tax-deferred retirement savings accounts with an employer matching contribution. The pension component guarantees you monthly retirement benefit payments over your lifetime once you meet age and service requirements. Additionally, as a new public-school employee, you will be automatically enrolled in a Personal Healthcare Fund (PHF), which is a portable, tax-deferred investment account that can be used to pay for healthcare expenses in retirement. Livonia Public Schools will contribute a dollar-for-dollar match on the first 2% you contribute. As an employee of Livonia Public Schools, you will be a part of a team working together in a positive work climate and a culture of mutual respect to support the successful education of children. You will also have the satisfaction of knowing you are a team member with Livonia Public Schools, which means you will have the following perks of employment available to you: medical insurance, including prescription drug coverage; family coverage eligibility for employees working 30 hours or more per week; single coverage eligibility for employees working 20 hours but less than 30 per week; optional "cash in lieu" of medical insurance for those who qualify; dental, vision, and life insurance; long-term disability coverage; Employee Assistance Program for employees and their eligible family members; and longevity pay.

Minimum qualifications and skills include a master's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) preferred; administrator's certificate required or the ability to obtain one; at least five (5) years of teaching and/or administrative experience; demonstrated ability to work effectively with teacher groups, along with a strong commitment to improving learning for all students; strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage a broad range of stakeholders, including parents; training in, and experience with, research-based, effective engagement and instructional strategies in mathematics, English Language Arts (ELA), science, and social studies for kindergarten through sixth grade; ability to provide professional development to administrators and staff on the elementary curriculum; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders; proven ability to collaborate effectively with others; and ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Major functions and responsibilities include exhibiting a commitment to the District's Shared Vision and Collective Commitments; creating and contributing to a welcoming and positive department climate and culture; facilitating the development, implementation, and evaluation of the elementary curriculum; designing curriculum development activities and professional learning programs based on best practices and theories of adult learning, group dynamics, and the strategic change process; developing and executing the rollout of new curriculum; developing and maintaining expertise in effective inquiry-based instructional practices and content integration; working with the Academic Assessments Coordinator to develop and evaluate student assessments and utilize the district data warehouse system; inventorying and ordering consumable teacher resources annually; developing and facilitating professional development opportunities for teachers and principals, while also participating in ongoing professional development; leading Content Area Leaders (CALs) and facilitating their professional development and implementation of district leadership activities; leading literacy coaches and instructional coaches to provide job-embedded professional development in literacy and mathematics; facilitating district-level committees related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning; assisting in the development of, and supports the implementation of, the district improvement plan and initiatives; working collaboratively with members of the Academic Services Department, as well as school and district administrators and directors, to plan and coordinate program development activities and initiatives; assisting in the evaluation of teaching staff as requested; monitoring and managing assigned Title IIA budget allocations; and performing other coordination responsibilities and duties as assigned.
