Job description

Company Description Join us and make YOUR mark on the World! Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has turned bold ideas into world‑changing impact advancing science and technology to strengthen U.S. security and promote global stability. Our mission spans four critical national security areas: nuclear deterrence, threat preparedness, energy security, and multi‑domain defense, empowering teams to take on the toughest challenges of today and tomorrow. With a culture built on innovation and operational excellence, LLNL is a place where your expertise can make a real impact. Job Description We have multiple openings for Senior Technical Coordinators specializing in electronics and/or mechanical fabrication. You will support the Supply Chain Organization within the National Ignition Facility & Photon Science (NIF&PS) Directorate, home to the world’s most energetic laser. This is an exciting opportunity to join the team that achieved fusion ignition in December 2022, a historic moment in science opening up new physics regimes and setting the stage for new fusion energy possibilities. You will apply knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials to work with NIF engineers and suppliers to purchase materials, mechanical and/or electrical parts (including PCBAs and cable harnesses), and electro‑optical/mechanical assemblies varying in size and complexity. The role requires full‑time on‑site presence due to the nature of the work, may occasionally require travel and/or overtime, and some work will occur in radiological environments. Responsibilities Provide advanced procurement/coordination support to scientific, engineering, and technical personnel through specialized technical knowledge relating to acquisition of parts, materials, and equipment for scientific research activities. Participate or lead project teams to provide acquisition support to senior technicians, technical associates, engineers, and scientists on medium‑to‑large projects. Provide solutions to complex technical problems and make decisions using established guidelines, techniques, and procedures. Research and recommend substitute products with similar technical specifications. Collaborate with suppliers, requestors, LLNL Procurement, production control, NIF warehouse, LLNL Receiving, and onsite mechanical/electrical fabrication shops to meet project cost and schedule requirements. Provide detailed award/delivery status to supervisor and customers/requesters while anticipating and reconciling supply issues, including technical factors affecting critical milestones. Stage, transport, and deliver parts across the LLNL site to support secondary operations and/or staging of assembly/installation activities; deliver and pick‑up parts from local suppliers. Initiate purchasing requisitions to secure award of contracts, purchase items using LLNL‑issued credit card, and identify and resolve issues for successful completion as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q‑level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship. Associate degree in mechanical/electronic technology or equivalent combination of education and prior experience in mechanical/electronic fabrication. Advanced level understanding and skills of ANSI International Electronic Standards or ASME Y14.5M Dimensioning & Tolerancing, with demonstrated ability to interpret and break down BOMs (Bill of Materials) for component‑level procurement. Advanced knowledge of the fabrication acquisition process, including approvals, bidding, award, inspection and acceptance, receipt, reconciliation, and close‑out. Effective written, verbal, feedback and presentation communication skills. Effective interpersonal, teamwork, and multitasking skills, with the ability to build and maintain productive working relationships, collaborate effectively across departments and manage multiple assignments simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast‑paced environment. Advanced skills in Microsoft Applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to safely operate pick‑up trucks, lift and carry up to 25 pounds, and properly secure loads for transport. Ability to travel and maintain flexibility in scheduled work hours to attend training activities on and off‑site. Desired Qualifications Experience in electronic procurement or as an electronic technician, including intermediate skills in electronics shop processes. Experience in mechanical fabrication procurement or as a machinist, sheet‑metal worker, or equivalent mechanical fabrication shop experience. Pay Range $52.23 – $63.97 hourly. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage.
