Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Job Description Job Title Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) for a 13-week contract assignment in Petaluma, California. This role involves providing direct patient care and assisting the Staff Physical Therapist in implementing comprehensive treatment plans within a dynamic healthcare setting, likely a rehabilitation or skilled nursing facility. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in patient rehabilitation, working closely with patients/residents, their families, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Daily responsibilities include executing prescribed treatment protocols, maintaining meticulous documentation, and actively contributing to patient education and discharge planning to ensure optimal recovery and functional outcomes. Key Responsibilities Provide direct patient care and administer treatments as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist and in accordance with physician treatment plans. Accurately record daily treatment notes and weekly progress notes, adhering to Physical Therapy Board regulations and facility policies. Actively participate in Patient Care and Rehabilitation Conferences to contribute to comprehensive patient planning. Assist the nursing department with the training of Restorative Aides to enhance patient care capabilities. Communicate effectively with the supervising Physical Therapist and other healthcare team members regarding patient progress, identified problems, and evolving treatment plans. Participate in facility in-service training programs for ongoing staff development. Document all treatment changes in accordance with established policy and procedures. Educate patients, their families, or nursing staff on maintenance programs and provide caregiver training in preparation for discharge from therapy services. Promptly report any equipment malfunctions to ensure all department equipment is maintained in good working order. Assist with the general cleaning and maintenance of the physical therapy department and treatment areas. Required Qualifications Current and active Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) license in California. Preferred Qualifications Not specified. Skills & Competencies Proficiency in computer skills, including data input into Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems such as Casamba and Point Click Care. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate positively, effectively, and appropriately with patients/residents, families, staff, and professional colleagues. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate documentation and record-keeping. Ability to follow detailed instructions and treatment plans from a supervising Physical Therapist and physician. Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and therapeutic treatment environment.
