Who We Are Looking For

We are currently seeking a Pediatric Phlebotomist who will be responsible for performing blood draws and other specimen collections on pediatric patients in a way that prioritizes their comfort, safety, and overall positive experience. This role requires expertise and at least 2 years of professional experience in venipuncture techniques for children of various ages, along with an understanding of age-appropriate interactions to help reduce patient anxiety.

Duties and Responsibilities

Patient Care and Clinical Assistance

  • Performs routine pediatric phlebotomy.
  • Prepare for patients' visit by reviewing upcoming appointment schedules and completing any pre-visit workflows.
  • Organizes and processes clinical specimens accurately. Identifies worksheet, computer and specimen problems and demonstrates ability to either resolve or elevate to licensed personnel appropriately.
  • Creates patient requisitions in the Laboratory Information System.
  • Ensures draw stations and laboratory areas are neat and clean.
  • Follow Foundation Labs procedures to ensure patient samples get transferred in an appropriate manner.
  • Logs, labels, and processes specimens and paperwork for testing.
  • Review after visit summary with patients whenever appropriate. Educate patients about pre and post appointment procedures/requirements and answer any questions they may have regarding their appointment.
  • Orders, unpacks, logs and stores supplies.
  • Assisting with clinical care, such as but not limited to: checking in patients, rooming patients, obtaining vitals, diagnostic procedures, and exercising patients

Compliance

  • Document patient interactions and record patient information, test results, and other relevant data accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system and/or other appropriate system.
  • Complete and maintain back-office skills and performance competencies.
  • Follow established clinic protocols and healthcare laws, regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Adhere to infection control practices and maintain a clean working environment using and wearing protective equipment and clothing as appropriate.

Communication and Administrative Tasks

  • Works collaboratively with provider(s) and other staff to ensure the delivery of quality care to patients.
  • Interact professionally and empathetically with patients and their families.
  • Relay relevant information to patients, providers, team members, and other departments regarding changes in patient care, dosing clarifications/discrepancies, and supplies/equipment.
  • Demonstrates initiative in making suggestions to improve efficiency and productivity and provides consistent feedback.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current and valid National Healthcare Association (NHA) Phlebotomy certification
  • Minimum two (2) years pediatric phlebotomy experience.
  • Current BLS Certification. PALS a plus.
  • Previous EMRs, Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office experience preferred
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and recordkeeping.
  • Team mentality and positive working attitude.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and team members.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires strong multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Physical requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to walk between multiple office locations that include the use of stairs (elevator is only available in some instances). This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
