At Pickett, we use the acronym S.O.L.V.E. to define our core values that include: Safety first, Outstanding service, Lasting relationships, Valued teamwork and Engaged culture."We solve the problems that matter" and we are always looking to add passionate, motivated, and qualified individuals to our rapidly expanding team.About the Role:This SUE Crew Chief position is a field-based role and leads a team of field crew members completing subsurface utility engineering (SUE) projects, including both Quality Level A (vacuum excavation and test holes) and Quality Level B (designating) work.What You Will Be Doing:Work with Survey Field Crew Supervisor to direct and manage field crews, including scheduling, quality control, and day-to-day decision-making in the fieldServe as the primary point of contact for field operationsDesignate utilities and perform utility records researchInterpret site, roadway design, and utility record drawingsOperate and oversee use of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Electromagnetic (EM) pipe & cable locating equipment, and vacuum excavationPrepare and organize field sketches and digital photographsEnsure company safety standards are adhered toProvide Training in locating and designating for crew membersAbility to solve and overcome problems in the field pertaining to locating and designatingComplete daily checklists and timesheetsProvide personnel oversight and vehicle navigationOther field survey and SUE duties as assignedWhat You Bring:3-5 years of field experience in utility locating, including project experience across both Quality Level A (vacuum excavation and test holes) and Quality Level B (designating) work (required)A working knowledge of the ASCE standards 38.02 and 38.22 is a plusProven ability to direct and manage field crews, including scheduling, quality control, and day-to-day decision-making in the fieldPrevious experience designating utilities, performing utility records research and interpreting site, roadway design and utility record drawings required, preferably in an engineering design environmentExtensive working knowledge of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Electromagnetic (EM) pipe & cable locating equipment, and vacuum excavationExperience with DOT, municipal, and/or public utility projects a plusStrong management and organizational skills while performing field operationsAbility to communicate technical information both verbally and in writingPosition will involve some travel out of townMust possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record acceptable to our company insurance provider (this is a condition of initial and continued employment) (required)Physical ability to work outdoors and on construction sites under all weather conditionsCandidate must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy (required)So...Why Join Us?You will have the opportunity to learn, grow and directly contribute to our business.
