I'm partnered with an established Chicago-area Design-Build General Contractor that's looking to add an Assistant Project Manager to its growing team in the western suburbs.
This GC has built a strong reputation throughout the Chicago market, delivering projects primarily across light industrial and manufacturing, while also working on commercial construction, healthcare, corporate interiors, aviation, and other specialty projects.
One of the biggest selling points here is the company culture. They're looking for an APM who's eager to take on more responsibility, gain exposure to different project types, and continue developing toward a Project Manager role. They're flexible on exact experience for someone who's the right cultural fit and demonstrates strong potential.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Support Project Managers on ground-up light industrial and commercial construction projects
- Assist with project budgets, schedules, forecasting, and cost tracking
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
- Coordinate with subcontractors, architects, engineers, and field leadership
- Assist with subcontractor buyout, procurement, and contract administration
- Participate in project meetings and communicate progress with project stakeholders
- Support projects from preconstruction through final closeout
- Take on increasing project ownership as you develop toward a Project Manager position
What They're Looking For:
- Previous experience as an Assistant Project Manager or Project Engineer with a General Contractor
- Light industrial or ground-up construction experience preferred, but not required
- Experience across commercial, healthcare, corporate interiors, aviation, or manufacturing projects also welcomed
- Strong understanding of construction processes, project documentation, and scheduling
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Someone who values teamwork, mentorship, and a positive company culture

Compensation & Benefits:
- $90,000 - $115,000 base compensation
