Job description

Teamwork makes the stream work.

Roku is changing how the world watches TV

Roku is the #1 TV streaming platform in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and we've set our sights on powering every television in the world. Roku pioneered streaming to the TV. Our mission is to be the TV streaming platform that connects the entire TV ecosystem. We connect consumers to the content they love, enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and provide advertisers unique capabilities to engage consumers.

From your first day at Roku, you'll make a valuable - and valued - contribution. We're a fast-growing public company where no one is a bystander. We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.

About the Team

Great user experiences come from people who have the vision to see the big picture on the macro side while still maintaining incredible attention to detail on the micro side. Our Ads Manager team is building best-in-class advertising workflows to help democratize connected TV for businesses of all sizes. The team's goal is to grow platform adoption, scale customer success, and make it easy for nearly anyone to grow their business through the biggest screen in the house. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and refine user interactions that bridge the gap between what our customers need and what our world-class engineers can deliver, while keeping things as elegant and easy as possible.

For New York Only - The estimated annual salary for this position is between $162,000 - $171,000 annually. Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographical location. This role is eligible for health insurance, equity awards, life insurance, disability benefits, parental leave, wellness benefits, and paid time off.

About the Role

We're seeking a talented UX Product Designer to join our Roku Ads Manager team and craft easy-to-use, delightful user experiences across our Ads Manager platform. We are looking for an independent individual who can drive projects forward autonomously and actively collaborate with multiple stakeholders from start to finish. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and other designers to design and refine user interactions that elevate the Ads Manager experience.

Note : Roku only offers two titles : "UX Product Designer" and "Senior UX Product Designer". To be considered for the Senior title, a candidate should have at least six years of industry experience.

What you'll be doing

  • Utilizing innovative design approaches and crafting scalable designs that are assessed with thorough research and analysis of product data.
  • Collaboratively gather requirements to own user-centered experience flows, fostering the cross-pollination of ideas across product teams.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers to identify the problems, business objectives, and user outcomes that your designs will effectively address.
  • Utilize critical user journeys to guide and frame your design approaches effectively.
  • Partner with User Researchers to identify and implement the optimal research methodology for evaluating your designs.
  • Take ownership of your designs and communicate effectively by articulating your design decisions to colleagues from various disciplines.
  • Participate in regular design critiques with your peers to actively give and receive feedback, fostering a collaborative environment for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to effectively communicate designs and ensure a thorough, comprehensive evaluation process.

We're excited if you have

  • Expertise and relevant industry experience, especially in B2B software products or handling complex B2C workflows.
  • Strong background as a Product Designer with hands-on experience contributing to multiple successfully launched products, and the ability to discuss your specific contributions in a compelling way.
  • Ability to excel in ambiguous environments, thriving amidst uncertainty, and enthusiastically embracing opportunities for rapid design iteration.
  • Exhibit a genuine passion for innovation and a keen ability to balance creative vision with strategic and business objectives.
  • Possess hands-on experience collaborating with Product Managers, engineers, UX writers, and UX Researchers, or alternatively, conducting user research yourself, and adeptly leveraging the insights gained from such research to shape and inform your design decisions.
  • Display an unwavering empathy for the user, showcasing a deep understanding of their needs, motivations, and aspirations throughout the design process.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • 3+ years' experience and the ability to work independently with the Product and UX teams.
  • About Our Hiring Process for this Role

We know your time is valuable, so we love being transparent about our hiring processes.

For this Product Design role, we typically start with a call from your dedicated Roku recruiter. Then you'll have a follow-up call with the Hiring Manager (UX Design Manager). After that, we'll ask you to give a 45-minute portfolio presentation to a panel of key stakeholders. In this presentation, we'd like you to walk us through a couple of projects you're especially proud of. You'll tell us what your role was, what your process was, what went well and what didn't, how it turned out, and what you learned from it. Then you'll have one-on-one meetings with the key stakeholders, and that's it! Throughout the process, your Roku recruiter will be there for you every step of the way.

    Benefits

Roku is committed to offering a diverse range of benefits as part of our compensation package to support our employees and their families. Our comprehensive benefits include global access to mental health and financial wellness support and resources. Local benefits include statutory and voluntary benefits which may include healthcare (medical, dental, and vision), life, accident, disability, commuter, and retirement options (401(k) / pension). Our employees can take time off work for vacation and other personal reasons to balance their evolving work and life needs. It's important to note that not every benefit is available in all locations or for every role. For details specific to your location, please consult with your recruiter.

    The Roku Culture

Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We're independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.

We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
