Ames Laboratory is currently seeking candidates for a Budget and Finance Specialist I or II. Ames Laboratory (AL) is a Department of Energy (DOE) funded national laboratory operated through a contractual agreement with Iowa State University (ISU).
Under general supervision, the Budget and Finance Specialist will assist in budget preparation and cost monitoring of several Ames Laboratory entities; provide reporting and data collection support to Budget Officer; and practice and promote adherence to DOE Environmental, Safety, and Health guidelines.
In addition to the aforementioned, the Budget and Finance Specialist II would also be responsible for budgetary control of Ames Laboratory projects / programs of approximately $10M, providing general support to the Budget Officer regarding various projects, preparing complex budget reports, and practicing and promoting adherence to Environmental, Safety, and Health guidelines.
The successful candidate will possess exceptional problem-solving skills, strong organizational and analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and sound attention to detail. It is essential for the candidate to readily assume responsibility, use independent judgment, take initiative, and coordinate a variety of activities. The candidate will also demonstrate advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to use formulas, pivot tables, charts, and data analysis tools to generate and produce complex budgeting and financial reports. A strong working knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Outlook) and enterprise financial systems is also required. The candidate will interact with a diverse constituency of individuals and must be able to communicate complex financial information clearly and accurately.
