Description of Responsibilities

The Director of Nursing is a dynamic role with responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of staff, patient and company needs. The DON will be responsible for the development of clinical policies and procedures, with ongoing training for all company staff. The DON will have the opportunity to do direct patient care, to be a patient advocate and to assist in the development of the specialty pharmacy. The DON will also have full P&L responsibility for the Specialty Pharmacy.

Responsibilities of the Director of Nursing include the following :

  • Hires, trains, develops, manages all professional and support staff for Specialty Pharmacy, Ambulatory Infusion Centers, and Home Health Agency.
  • Assumes full P&L responsibility for Specialty Pharmacy, HHA operations and Home Infusion patients.
  • Assists Director of Operations and operations personnel in ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring operations. Will report and initiate changes when required and directed.
  • Serves as clinical resource to agency staff exercising considerable judgement, problem solving skills and professional knowledge.
  • Responsible for the efficiency and effectiveness of systems that support the delivery of patient care and achievement of quality patient outcomes.
  • Assures that Ambulatory Infusion Center and Home Health Agency staff complete orientation, maintain clinical competence, participate in continuing education, and are evaluated in a timely manner. Participates in the orientation of other clinical staff or branch personnel as directed.
  • Oversees the receipt, evaluation, acceptance, and execution of the initial patient intake process to assure that patient verification, assessment, teaching, and the ongoing scheduling of patient services for the Ambulatory Infusion Centers and Home Health Agency occurs in a timely and appropriate manner. Performs initial patient assessments and reassessments as needed.
  • Assures that all patient-related documentation, clinical and departmental reports are accurately completed, submitted and / or filed in a timely manner, according to internal and external regulatory requirements.
  • Supports the billing process for all Ambulatory Infusion Center and Home Health Agency services.
  • Manages employees through the establishment of performing goals, allocating resources for continuing education and in-services for new ongoing patient related care. Including but not limited to performance evaluations, supervisory visits, and job performance counseling.
  • Maintains and participates in the review of organization wide policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Participates in the planning, decision making, and implementation of all activities that affect the staff and patients of the Ambulatory Infusion Centers and Home Health Agency.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affirmations to keep abreast of latest trends in the infusion field while assuming own clinical competency.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers, fosters teamwork and practices fiscal responsibility.
  • Communicates with all members of the patient care team, external and internal, as needed to ensure good outcomes for the patient.
  • Participates in the company’s quality improvement program.
  • Assists in company’s marketing and providing educational in-services as requested.
  • Participates in various internal committees as requested.
  • Maintains proficiency with electronic medical record system.
  • Maintains clinical competencies to do direct patient care when needed.

Qualifications and Preferred Skills

  • Current, active and in good standing Registered Nurse license in the state of California.
  • 2+ years in leadership / management experience.
  • 2+ years of clinical leadership in Infusion therapy environment which included administration of IVIG, and other medications for auto immune diseases.
  • Ability to work with an interdisciplinary team of professionals including, but not limited to, case managers, discharge planners, patients, doctors, and pharmacists.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements of Federal, State and accreditation bodies for ambulatory infusion centers and home health agencies.
  • Prior experience with establishing written policies and procedures.
  • Ability to organize and plan the activities of subordinates, and to delegate appropriately.
  • Organizational skills sufficient to maintain consistently accurate records.
  • Ability to evaluate options and to make efficient decisions.
  • Computer skills that include proficiency with spreadsheets and use of the internet, as well as word processing, and efficient use of the internet and e-mail.
  • Home health care and supervisory experience.
  • Licensed health care provider, RPh or RN.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or current CRNI or IGCN certification for 2+ periods
  • Current CRNI, IGCN OR IGNS Certification preferred.
  • Current BLS.
  • Affiliation with or membership in INS, (Infusion Nurse Society) or IGNS (Immunological National Society) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record for the past three years.
