This mission is accomplished through teaching, research and community engagement that lead to improved practice and by working in partnerships with PK-12 schools, institutions of higher education, communities, and university colleagues.

The department has 25 full-time faculty members with specializations in educational research, higher education, learning design and technology, school administration, and educational leadership.

The vision of the Cato College of Education is to be a leader in educational research, teaching, and service through excellence and engagement.

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Tenured and Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate goals.
Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum and instructional development, and grading student work.
Scholarly Research, Creative, and Other Professional Activities – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in expanding the knowledge base of their academic field by conducting research or engaging in other creative activities as appropriate to the faculty member’s discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to research may include but are not limited to: research/creative activity that generates new knowledge and/or synthesizes and/or integrates existing knowledge, publication, an on-going agenda for research, scholarly, and creative activity, and are expected to seek extramural support for their work.
Service to University, the Public, and the Profession – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to: service to the administration and governance of the University, public service, and service to the profession.

To view the complete Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Tenured and Tenure-Track Faculty document visit our website: https://provost.charlotte.edu/academic-budget-hr/academic-personnel-procedures-handbook/ Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Department of Educational Leadership at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a full-time, tenured, or tenure-eligible Associate Professor of Educational Leadership (PK-12 Education) beginning August 10, 2026 (position #3045). The position will primarily serve the Master of School Administration and the EdD program in Educational Leadership, which leads to North Carolina principal and superintendent licensure. Graduate-level coursework may be delivered in various formats, including face-to-face, hybrid/blended, and occasionally fully online. Teaching responsibilities may include classes related to school leadership, operations, policy, curriculum and supervision, and law.


Responsibilities. Teach courses in the Department of Educational Leadership primarily in the field of PK-12 school improvement, accountability, and equity; demonstrate scholarly productivity in research; support the scholarly work of students (serve on and chair dissertations); seek external funds to support research activities; provide service to the field and profession; and participate in program, department, college, and university service.

Minimum Experience/Education UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. Preferred Education, Skills and Experience Qualifications. Required qualifications include (1) an earned doctorate in Educational Leadership/Administration or a closely related field from an accredited university, (2) a demonstrated commitment to PK-12 school and district leadership through professional experience, scholarship, and service, (3) a demonstrated track record of active research in areas associated with educational leadership, and (4) experience teaching graduate-level courses.

Preferred qualifications include: (1) leadership and/or teaching experience in a PK-12 school and/or district setting, (2) evidence of grants or grant applications in the field of education or educational leadership, and (3) familiarity with the use of online instructional technologies.
