Library Director, Nevins Library (Methuen)

The Nevins Library located in Methuen, MA is seeking to fill a Full Time Library Director Position beginning in February 2026. The Nevins Memorial Library, located in Methuen, MA is a private non-profit organization that serves as the public library for the City of Methuen, a community of 53,000. The Trustees are seeking a creative, energetic individual with a strong public service orientation to plan and direct all phases of library operations.

The Library Director works closely with public and municipal officials and all types of community organizations. They perform professional, administrative, and supervisory work. The Director is responsible for the historic building and grounds and coordinates all major repairs and maintenance. The Director oversees a staff of 33-35, including professional, paraprofessional, clerical and maintenance staff members. Acting as liaison with the Friends of the Library is also expected.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

The successful candidate will have proven leadership capability and a deep understanding of the current and future place of public libraries in our communities. The Director reports to the Nevins Library Board of Trustees.

• At least 3-5 years’ of progressive library management experience in public libraries is strongly preferred.
• Enthusiasm, flexibility, self-motivation, as well as technology, budgeting, personnel management, and library marketing / publicity skills are required.
• Knowledge of fundraising and grant-writing are a plus.
• Must have, or be able to obtain a Certificate of Librarianship from the MA Board of Library Commissioners.
• All Nevins Library employees must pass a CORI check.
• Understands and respects people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds.

Salary : $100,000.00 / year, with a minimum salary of $100,000.
