Description
Position Summary
- Plan, direct and coordinate manufacturing processes and procedures
- Respond to manufacturing issues and concerns to ensure products are produced to specifications and according to manufacturing schedules while ensuring efficient use of resources
- Develop manufacturing concepts and strategies to support business objectives
- Provide producibility input to design, manufacturing processes and manufacturing technologies to meet cost and schedules
- Provide technical expertise cross-functionally
- Execute engineering and planning changes including revising released work orders while maintaining system integrity
- Investigate new technology, benchmark best practices and assess resource requirements
- Identify and implement continuous improvement projects
- Trouble shoot repetitive rejections, prepare and complete action plans to drive issues to root cause / corrective actions
Education
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
- Preferred degree in related field
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of related experience as Manufacturing Planner, Manufacturing Engineer, and / or Tool Planner within the aviation industry
- 10 years in a manufacturing / fabrication aviation environment
Technical Skills
- Must be able to prioritize assignments and work with minimal supervision while focusing on key task with limited time and resources
- Effectively liaise with quality, purchasing, production and other departments
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written
- Must be show strong initiative and ownership with the ability to make succinct decisions
- Experience with Microsoft office tools is mandatory
- The ability to interpret and comprehend engineering drawings and specifications is mandatory
- Experience with an ERP system is mandatory; experience with M2M is preferred
- CATIA or Enovia experience is highly preferred
- Ability to collect, organize and analyze data, summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources
- Basic knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is preferred
Work Environment / Essential Physical Functions
- The work environment shall include office areas, manufacturing plant areas (conditioned and unconditioned), outside during any season, and may include travel
- Noise and particulate exposure in select manufacturing areas, eye and ear protection required respective
- Ability to sit and / or stand 10 hours a day
- Ability to lift / carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and reach above head
- Ability to climb step stool and / or enter confined workspaces for evaluation of manufacturing processes
Language Skills
Ability to understand and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to clearly communicate verbally and written using the English language
Duties and Tasks
- Review engineering data and specifications to ensure manufacturing related requirements can be met
- Develop integrated work instructions and sequencing of events to support delivery commitments; work instructions to include identification of sequential and final inspection requirements
- Provide configuration accountability for the implementation of committed changes
- Develop tooling requirements based on manufacturing and engineering requirements
- Perform producibility assessments for a product design and provide producibility input for design engineering, manufacturing process development, and manufacturing technologies to meet cost, schedule, and quality objectives
- Review and approve supplier data to ensure manufacturing related requirements are met
- Draft, update, and review manufacturing processes and procedures to support business and regulatory agency requirements
- Advance lean manufacturing principles to improve manufacturing efficiencies
- Evaluate and suggest recommendations on the manufacturing quality control processes, types of manufacturing methods to be adopted, list of processes to be followed, and tooling and suggest fixturing
- Develops, implements and maintains Engineering procedures
- Provides technical support for plant layout, purchase of equipment, upgrade of equipment, feasibility studies
- Confers with internal and external customers concerning product design and tooling to insure efficient production methods
- Confers with vendors to determine part specifications and recommends the purchase of equipment and materials used in manufacturing and production
