Visiting Assistant Professor - Microbiology

St. Edward's University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month , non-tenure-track position as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, beginning August 2024.

Successful candidates will have a background in microbiology and a passion for teaching undergraduate courses in introductory biology, microbiology, and immunology;

additional courses may be assigned dependent on the candidate's expertise. There are no formal academic advising or university service responsibilities associated with this position, but opportunities to become involved in the Department, the School of Natural Sciences, and the University will be available.

For consideration, candidates must possess a master's degree or a minimum of 18 graduate hours in biology or a related field.

A PhD in Microbiology or related field is preferred.

Essential Responsibilities Include :

Prepare and teach laboratory and lecture courses in microbiology for pre-Health Professions majors (BIOL 3339 / 3139 Microbiology) and Nursing majors (BIOL 2318 / 2118 Clinical Microbiology).

The standard teaching load is 5 courses (15 contract hours) per semester.

  • The potential to teach other courses in the curriculum including Immunology and General Biology
  • Supervision of undergraduate teaching assistants
  • Other duties as assigned
