Job Summary
The Safety Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring that AFC Transport remains compliant with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). This position manages new driver onboarding, driver qualification (DQ) files, drug and alcohol program administration, and supports companywide safety initiatives. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and excited about delivering a best-in-class experience for our drivers and internal teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Organize, coordinate, and facilitate new driver orientation and onboarding
- Complete and maintain Driver Qualification (DQ) files, including DOT tasks in Tenstreet and McLeod
- Administer and track DOT-regulated drug and alcohol testing
- Prepare and maintain permit binders, driver manuals, safety booklets, and compliance documentation
- Process incoming mail; scan and route documents to appropriate departments
- Monitor and maintain driver files, fuel card assignments, and equipment swaps
- Track BOL submissions for settlements and prepare weekly reporting
- Support general office organization and assist with internal events and team initiatives
- Answer Safety Department phone lines and respond professionally to inquiries
- Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation (every third week) for safety-related emergencies
Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or equivalentExperience in the transportation industry—preferably in safety, compliance, or driver qualificationWorking knowledge of FMCSRs, driver onboarding standards, and DOT regulatory requirementsAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced settingExcellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detailEffective communication and interpersonal skillsA positive, team-focused attitude and willingness to jump in where neededPreferred
Experience with Tenstreet, McLeod TMS, Samsara, or similar ELD platformsPrior experience conducting training and partnering with dispatch, HR, and operations teamsPhysical Demands and Work Environment
