The Director of Strategic Client Growth plays a key role in ensuring successful client relationships by advancing the growth and visibility of CBIZ Financial Accounting and Advisory Services (FAAS) within the San Francisco Bay Area and broader West Coast market. Reporting to the FAAS West Coast Managing Director, this position focuses on building strategic relationships with finance and accounting leaders, referral partners, and ecosystem stakeholders to strengthen our market presence and client portfolio.
Essential Functions & Primary Duties
- Develop a deep understanding of all CBIZ FAAS service offerings and go-to-market messaging. Monitor activity within the venture-backed and public company ecosystems, including pre‑IPO and high‑growth organizations, to identify emerging opportunities. Track significant market movements such as acquisitions, financings, leadership transitions, and audit firm changes to facilitate timely and strategic outreach. Leverage an established network of finance and accounting professionals, bankers, attorneys, and audit partners to expand the firm’s client relationships and referral channels. Schedule and lead both in‑person and virtual meetings to foster new and existing relationships.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of all outreach, meetings, and pipeline activities in Salesforce. Manage and track relationship progress through defined business development stages, ensuring follow‑through and accountability. Use tools including PitchBook, and other market intelligence platforms to identify and prioritize prospective connections.
- Collaborate with Marketing to execute and follow up on lead generation and thought leadership campaigns. Contribute ideas and feedback from the market to help shape content, events, and advisory insights that reflect current client needs and trends.
- Attend industry events as necessary to market CBIZ FAAS and optimize brand awareness.
- Stay current on developments across accounting standards, financial systems, and competitive offerings to maintain credibility and insight in client interactions.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.Minimum of 7 years of experience in a client‑facing or market‑engagement capacity within professional services, financial advisory, or a related sector.Proven track record of developing executive‑level relationships that result in measurable business impact.Ability to manage multiple initiatives and deadlines simultaneously.Ability to travel across the West Coast 10‑20% of the time to support meetings and events.Strong network of professional relationships at the CFO, CAO, Corporate Controller, and Head of Finance levels across public and venture‑backed companies.Familiarity with all major Big Four audit firms and meaningful connections with audit partners. Working knowledge of leading finance and accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, Workiva, FloQast). Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Salesforce CRM.Demonstrated ability to build and sustain multi‑level relationships within client and partner organizations.Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize actions across multiple relationship opportunities.Self‑starter mentality with minimal need for supervision; high degree of professionalism, judgment, and discretion. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to a range of audiences and contexts.Prior experience working as an accounting and advisory professional is a plus.Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.8 years of experience in related field.6 years supervisory experience.Must have and preserve required licenses.Ability to manage deadlines, work on multiple assignments and prioritize each assignment as necessary.Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally.Proficient use of applicable technology.Must be able to travel based on client and business needs.About Us
