This role combines deep clinical expertise with critical thinking to support the development of intelligent automation tools that enhance utilization management processes. The ideal candidate has a solid background in clinical decision-making, particularly in inpatient concurrent review and prior authorization, and is skilled in interpreting diverse clinical criteria sets. This position partners closely with development and analytical teams to design and refine tools that extract relevant clinical language from documentation and map it to decision criteria, enabling automated and accurate determinations.

As the Clinical Data Annotator and AI Trainer, you will serve as the clinical authority guiding the development of automation tools that support decision-making in utilization management. You will lead efforts to interpret and structure clinical criteria, define logic hierarchies, and ensure that documentation inputs are accurately translated into responses that align with medical necessity standards.

This role requires close collaboration with developers, data analysts, and clinical stakeholders to ensure that the tool's language processing capabilities reflect real-world clinical documentation and decision pathways. You will also oversee user acceptance testing (UAT), annotation processes, and contribute to the strategic roadmap for expanding automated services.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely

  • from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Clinical Criteria Interpretation & Tool Development
  • Serve as the clinical lead for defining and structuring decision criteria hierarchies used in automated review tools

  • Interpret multiple sets of clinical criteria (e.g., InterQual, MCG, internal guidelines) and translate them into decision trees and logic models
  • Collaborate with development teams to teach the tool how to extract and interpret clinical language from documentation
  • Guide annotation efforts to ensure accurate mapping of clinical terms to criteria questions
  • Lead UAT efforts to validate tool performance against clinical expectations
  • Implementation & Integration
  • Define clinical requirements for new services to be added to the automated decisioning platform

  • Partner with clinical and technical teams to ensure readiness for go-live milestones and integration success
  • Document and communicate clinical business requirements, timelines, and dependencies
  • Strategic Collaboration
  • Work with clinical leadership to align automation efforts with care delivery standards and regulatory requirements

  • Provide clinical insight into platform enhancements and future roadmap planning
  • Represent clinical automation initiatives in cross-functional and executive-level discussions

    Required Qualifications :

  • Active clinical licensure in your state of residence (e.g., RN, LPN, NP)
  • Experience interpreting and applying clinical criteria sets (e.g., InterQual, MCG)
  • Experience collaborating with development teams on clinical technology solutions
  • Solid background in utilization management, including prior authorization and concurrent review
  • Proven ability to translate clinical workflows and documentation into structured system requirements
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic healthcare environment
  • Preferred Qualification :

  • Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $71,200 to $127,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
