Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit :

The CNNC promotes access and integration for immigrants and refugees in North Carolina by bridging newcomer populations with existing communities through direct service provision, research, and training.Specifically, the CNNC conducts :

  • Community-based outreach initiatives and programming to help immigrants and refugees build their capacity to navigate complex systems in their new home.
  • Research and evaluation studies to educate the general public, track demographic trends, and enhance the quality-of-service provision.
  • Experiential training and leadership development for all community members through AmeriCorps positions, internships, volunteer experiences, and workshops.

Position Summary :

The Community Support Services Associate Director would manage and develop CNNC’s community support programs : CNNC Community Centers, Thriving at Three, and the Immigrant Health ACCESS project. The position develops community engaged programming and liaises with community partners to design, develop, and implement community-based direct service provision. The Associate Director will oversee and develop policies, procedures, and best practices for CSS programs. This individual is primarily responsible for leadership, direction, oversight, strategic planning and growth of CCS. The position will lead the growth of the CSS program through development and implementation of programs, evaluation of data regarding immigrant and refugee needs, development and submission of external grants as appropriate, oversight of the overall budget and grant management. This position operates autonomously and serves in place of the CNNC Director in their absence.

Currently, the Community Support Assistant Director (CSAD) is primarily responsible for the leadership, direction, oversight and strategic planning of the Community Supports programs of CNNC. The CSAD directs the CNNC’s community-based grant funded programs whose services often overlap and intersect because they serve the same communities : Community Centers Program, Thriving at Three Program, Immigrant Health ACCESS Project, and AmeriCorps ACCESS. The position identifies community needs through research conducted in consultation with immigration and refugee communities in NC to design, develop, implement and evaluate grant funded community-based programs. This position reports to the CNNC director and is responsible for ensuring timely grant reporting to the sponsors.

The CSAD will oversee policies and processes for an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary program that must work across external partners and academic units to meet the needs of the population served. This position will provide leadership, direction, oversight and strategic planning and alignment of the financial planning and fiscal operations of the grant funded community support programs. The CSAD will lead the growth and business operations of the community support programs through development of research programs, evaluation of data, development and submission of external grants as well as oversight of budget and grant management. This position operates autonomously and serves in place of the CNNC Director in their absence.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Masters from an accredited university with at least three years experience in immigration and refugee services.
  • 3-5 years experience in developing and managing an immigration refugee program.
  • Personnel management experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Demonstrated self-starter and ability to work independently, collaboratively within a team, and with professionals from other fields to assist clients.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), problem solving, listening, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to form and maintain positive work relationships.
  • Detailed and strong administrative, organizational, and management skills, with ability to prioritize multiple important tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, and comfort working within a case management and tracking system.

  • Manage and develop service delivery aspects of Community Services.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for programs under CCS handling all matters of a unique nature.
  • Provide direct client services as necessary to meet grant or contract requirements. Be actively involved in community events.
  • Liaise with community partners, UNCG academic partners and other Division of Research and Engagement centers to strengthen outcomes of all programs within CNNC and other centers.
  • Coordinate CNNC programs to efficiently access and coordinate services from a variety of CNNC programs.
  • Percentage Of Time : 50%

    Essential Tasks :

  • Research immigration and refugee communities through close relationships and interactions with community members, business, on-profits and UNCG academic units to evaluate and determine the needs of immigrants and refugees with regard to transition, community immersion, meeting life and family needs such as education, employment, housing and medical needs.

    Essential Tasks :

  • Supervise EHRA / SHRA Community Support Services staff, with focus given to staff personal and professional development.
  • Serve on community boards and advisory committees as appropriate to represent CNNC and UNCGon matters associated to immigrant and refugee matters.
  • When needed, serve in place of the CNNC director.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Funding Management

    Essential Tasks :

  • Research, write and obtain grants to fund the Community Support Program Areas.
  • Develop necessary reports and documents to enhance and strengthen submissions for external funding.
  • Manage grants to ensure proper management of funding, compliance with grant guidelines and fulfillment of outcomes as well as compliance with university, state and federal grant requirements.
  • Serve as primary contact with Office of Sponsored programs and Contracts and Grants Administration offices for community support grants and funding.
