Human Resources Specialist
This position is located in the Department of Human Resources Development, Employee Claims Division, Safety Branch. It serves as a subject matter expert in the developing and implementing State Safety and Health Programs to ensure safe and healthy working conditions; the application of accidental injury leaves, temporary hazard pay provisions; and identifying and evaluating hazardous working conditions. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to : providing information and guidance on safety policy formulation for statewide safety training in the areas of hazard communication, commercial driver's license, violence in the workplace, ergonomics and drug and alcohol testing; conducting worksite inspections to assist in mitigating and eliminating unsafe conditions or behaviors; obtaining information on and analyzing workers' compensation claims to recommend appropriate actions in resolving requests, including the percentage of differential to be awarded, as applicable; representing the Safety Office at arbitration hearings pertaining to Temporary Hazard Pay, Drug and Alcohol testing, and collective bargaining provisions pertaining to heath and safety; etc.
In order to effectively perform these duties and responsibilities, applicants must possess demonstrated knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations and collective bargaining agreements; personnel rules, regulations and procedures; and the purpose and use of personal protective equipment. Applicants must also have the ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, professional standards and other requirements; prepare clear and concise written reports; establish and maintain effective relationships with a wide variety of individuals; and research and analyze data.
