About the Role :
As a Manufacturing Plastics Process Engineer at either our Montgomery, AL or Springfield, IL plant, you will play a crucial role in Contech's plastics manufacturing facilities.
Be a part of our commitment to Operational Excellence by facilitating new process technology, standardization, product introduction, and continuous improvement.
This role involves being a technical expert, troubleshooting, defining production targets, and driving efficiency to ensure the highest standards in manufacturing.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Root Cause Analysis : Investigate product quality issues, technical / process problems, and equipment failures. Develop robust solutions to prevent reoccurrences.
- Process Optimization : Identify and resolve process issues with sustainable solutions across plants and suppliers.
- Communication : Communicate with clients and vendors to obtain necessary materials and equipment.
- Project Management : Manage assigned projects, including planning, coordination, control, and follow-up. Ensure projects meet committed targets and stay within budget.
- Technology Improvements : Facilitate new technology improvements, including new product / process introduction and manufacturing flow to eliminate waste.
- Lean Thinking Culture : Drive a "Lean Thinking Culture" with process standardization, setup reduction, and flow layout for lower operating costs.
- Preventive Maintenance : Develop and initiate sustainable preventive maintenance measures for equipment, tooling, and the facility.
- Documentation : Develop and document changes to processes and equipment using the change management system.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration : Participate in cross-departmental teams to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and overall productivity.
- Technical Training : Provide technical training and assistance to the production team on machinery operation, extrusion / molding techniques, and cost-reductive changes.
- Continuous Improvement : Monitor and validate existing processes, equipment, and tooling for continuous improvement opportunities.
- Collaboration : Collaborate with Production, Facilities, and Maintenance for an optimal building environment conducive to operations.
- Leadership : Lead the manufacturing department in achieving safety, quality, and production goals. Ensure smooth and efficient production runs with desired results.
- Data Management : Collect and organize production run data for analysis and reporting.
Qualifications :
- BS in Plastics, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related Engineering Degree.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in plastics extrusion technologies.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude with hands-on approach and be dedicated to continuous improvement.
- Project management experience in planning, coordinating, execution and follow-up.
- Ability to lead and direct multiple projects and teams simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and writing communication skills.
- Results driven self-starter with ability to execute job responsibilities with limited supervision.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interact professionally with team members, vendors, and customers.
- Knowledge of and ability to train others in data driven root cause analysis methodologies.
- Superior extrusion and injection molding process development and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Knowledge and understanding of parts prints, inspection procedures.
- Proficiency with 3D AutoCAD and MS Office Suite.
- Exposure to Lean Six Sigma and 5S, a plus.
- Travel up to 25%.
