Job description

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY :

Duke Access and Accommodation Services (DAAS, formerly the Disability Management System) provides guidance and assistance to ensure Duke University meets its responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act (ADA), Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), and similar laws. This includes facilitating requests for reasonable accommodations and acting as a resource for anyone with questions arising in those areas. The Program Coordinator on the Employment and Visitor Accommodations Team is a critical member of the DAAS team by working directly with employees, visitors, various units, and other partners.

The Program Coordinator is responsible for facilitating and responding to employee and visitor accommodation requests under Title I of the ADA, the Rehabilitation Act, and with the PWFA. The Program Coordinator will also respond to Religious exemption request.This includes advising and consulting with members of the University and Health System community including faculty, staff, applicants, and administrators. The Program Coordinator is expected to be an integral part of Duke's compliance framework while providing competent, consistent, and compassionate service through DAAS.

WORK PERFORMED :

  • Coordinate Employee and Visitor ADA accommodations, PWFA accommodations and Religious Exemption requests for the University and Health System.
  • Respond in a timely and professional manner to all outreach, accommodation, or other consultation requests. Receive, track, and review all submitted Reasonable Accommodation Request forms for accuracy and completeness. Obtain any missing information on Reasonable Accommodation Request forms (i.e. Duke Unique ID numbers, Continuous Service Dates and requested accommodations).
  • Process and enter submitted Reasonable Accommodation Request forms in a timely manner.
  • Interface and collaborate with partners during the interactive process, including : unit leadership, Human Resources, Staff & Labor Relations, Employee Occupational Health & Wellness, Workers' Compensation, as well as other programs, offices and departments to evaluate what, if any, reasonable accommodations must be implemented for particular individuals.
  • Problem solve, negotiate, and advise units, departments, and other partners on matters relating to employment issues arising under the ADA or PWFA.
  • Maintain timely and complete data for all Employee and Visitor ADA and PWFA accommodation requests and accessibility projects. Coordinate the collection of Employee and Visitor ADA and PWFA data and assist in developing reports.
  • Manage complete and accurate case files to ensure compliance.
  • Analyze trends and recommend modifications to improve the effectiveness of the PWFA or ADA Reasonable Accommodation Processes.
  • Coordinate and track all special parking request arrangements for employees and visitors.
  • Responsible for representing DAAS on behalf of Duke University / Health Systems by attending professional meetings.
  • Assist in coordinating and responding to governmental action, private lawsuits, audits, or other investigation actions.
  • Assist the Director in conducting departmental visits to recommend and discuss implementation of accommodations as appropriate in response to reasonable accommodation requests.
  • Assist the Director in conducting site visits to recommend facility modifications as appropriate in response to reasonable accommodation requests.
  • Assist the Director in developing and providing relevant educational training sessions for Duke University and Health System.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of interns and / or volunteers assigned to DAAS Employment & Visitor area.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

This position requires a bachelor's degree.

Work requires one year of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES :

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the PWFA
  • Knowledge of Religious exemptions
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Prior experience in higher education
  • Familiarity with Duke University and / or Health System
  • Knowledge of Duke's Human Resource Policies (FMLA, Personal Leave, Corrective Action)
  • Prior knowledge of the Accommodate (Symplicity) case management system

    Anticipated Pay Range :

    Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $44,766.00 to USD $71,706.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education / training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
