About the Department

The University of Chicago Eating Disorders Program is recognized internationally as a leader in eating disorders treatment and research.

Our comprehensive outpatient program provides state-of-the-art assessment and treatment services to children, adolescents, and adults with a broad range of eating- and weight-related problems.

Job Summary

The job provides professional support and solves straightforward problems in chronic, acute, or terminal illnesses. Services include advising family care givers, providing patient education and counseling, and making referrals for other services.

Responsibilities

Provides clinical diagnostic evaluation and assessment of clients. Provides emergency and crisis intervention services. Documents all pertinent information.

Provides follow-up care as is necessary, via appointments, visits, or telephone contact with patients, families, and / or other medical providers.

Develops community and University resources and makes appropriate referrals.

Conducts outpatient psychotherapy using evidence based practices (e.g. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Supportive Psychotherapy).

Engages with multi-disciplinary team including members of the Psychiatry department and the Center for the Surgical Treatment of Obesity.

Attends team rounds, didactics, and clinical supervision meetings weekly.

Interprets, monitors, and record client progress according to measurable goals described in treatment and care plan.

Analyzes potential problems in home or work environments of clients.

Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Certifications

Preferred Qualifications

Experience

Post secondary work experience in a field related to psychiatric assessment or weight management.

Licenses and Certifications

Licensed in the State of Illinois, LCSW.

Advanced degree or higher in Social Work from an accredited institution.

Preferred Competencies

Interactive Communication.

Teamwork.

Knowledge of federal and state laws, rules, regulations, Code of Ethics, policies, and procedures as related to social work.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to develop reports and maintain records.

Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality while handling sensitive situations.

Working Conditions

Requires the ability to work independently.
