Nitty Gritty

By “senior director,” we mean, like, you’ll be the senior person on this world-class SEM team, directing the managers and analysts. Your goal : drive the team toward further ass-kickery and constant improvement by applying smart data, uncanny intuition and laser-like operational precision.

You’ll be making sure that search marketing / PPC advertising hits ROI targets — and you’ll have a major budget to match. You’ll also oversee the maintenance and further development of the company’s own internal SEM platform. At every step of the way, performance will be measured and analyzed, and that’s something that you’ll always have a hand and eye on — and quite obviously you’ll adjust your approach according to what the numbers are telling you and your analysts.

Of course in order to carry this out successfully, you’ll need to keep yourself closely apprised of what the business and product teams are up to, so you’ll be in constant touch with them and with the rest of senior management.

Finally, another crucial part of your work will be to foster powerful relationships with such search partners as Yahoo!, Google and Bing, which means that you’ll bring your awesomeness to bear beyond the company walls and out into the great world.

You were raised in a data / analytical-intensive field like math, economics, or finance, and have spent more than half a decade working in paid search with one of the top brands on the internet. Along the way, you’ve learned a lot about managing people (and budgets) — you know how to motivate and develop a team and create a workplace environment in which success is all clear to take off.

You’ve got all the tech savvy that’s to be expected of someone with your illustrious background, as well as an insatiable taste for using data to reach actionable business conclusions. You communicate clearly and strongly, and you’re able to express your own well thought-out point of view so that others understand, yet you’re open-minded and team-spirited enough to take good ideas and change your mind when someone’s alternative take has more merit than yours.
